Opinions on this 166.036 Cosmic

Hi all,

I’m considering this 166.036 and would appreciate any OF thoughts.

The dial looks legit to me (and actually in pretty good shape). I also see no obvious signs of a polished case, but I’m no expert and would appreciate any views from the forum on its general condition.

Also not sure if this bracelet is original to the Cosmic…

Thanks in advance.

Nice looking watch. The bullet bracelet is a nice touch, would need the clasp # to know if it’s original but regardless- the endlinks fit well and it’s period correct. What the seller is asking would determine if it’s worth getting.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree the bracelet works quite nicely regardless of whether it’s original - I believe another thread suggested Cosmics came on BoR bracelets, but either way it’s not a deal breaker.

Seller is asking $950 which to me seems a bit high for a Cosmic, based on what I’ve seen. But as you say it’s a nice looking example.

Watches like this is where we get into grey areas for comps. For a cosmic head only with a silver or other common dial- yes, it’s high. But the sunburst blue is not as common and often a hot mess- this one is showing only the faintest of brassing at the very edges of the pie-pan.

Lume is bright yellow and hands match so doesn’t look like it took on any moisture (which is what usually destroys the blue dials).

Case is nice and shows original radial brushing on the top (if it was polished they did a nice job).

Bracelet is a bonus with fitted endlinks (on that case profile they need to be correct). I’ve seen many with various bracelets so I don’t think a BOR was a hard rule. I would ask for the bracelet length as that could be a deal breaker.

So if you take the above into consideration then you realize the price isn’t “bad” but there is always room to negotiate if it’s a real person and not an eBay listing.

Ultimately it comes down to how badly you want it, could you find another with its attributes for less and are you going to kick yourself because you tried to save a couple hundred bucks.

ask for photo of inside clasp bracelet may be worth enough to make deal more attractive

Bracelet has no value, he can send it to me and get a nice BOR for it and I’ll pay the postage and dispose of it properly 😜

Thank you. The watch looked in good shape to my untrained eye, but it always amazes me how much I learn (and how much detail I typically miss) when I seek the views of OF members. Really appreciate it.

Ha! OK so I guess it’s not a bad BoR alternative after all 😉

The catch is that the bracelet is sized for a 16cm wrist, which might be too snug for even my puny limbs…

When you ask for inside clasp photo also ask for side view of clasp showing adjustment holes. There may be room to enlarge by just adjusting if not already on largest hole.

Thank you for the sound advice. I’ve just asked. Fingers crossed. 16.5cm is my sweet spot!

I like it, hopefully it will have some room for adjustment and maybe you can negotiate it a bit. Good luck!

So it’s a bit out of focus, but am I correct in thinking there might be room to adjust the clasp by one adjustment hole based on the photo I received?

Yes looks like it can extend 1 hole

As far as I can tell, the omega bullet bracelet is the same as the Bulova as made by JB Champion.

We know JBC made a few bracelets for Omega, and links can usually be swapped between them. Let’s hope the extra link in the clasp gets you there, but links can be had.

And here she is… arrived today and I’m super happy. I managed to negotiate the price down a bit and the bracelet (a reference 1098) is actually on the large side for me, so will tweak the length tonight, wear her in for a few days and see how she runs. Thanks to all for the valuable comments and advice.

Cracking looking watch, just sold a silver and black dial version which I was rather fond of.
A very nice catch indeed and that dial is just lovely.

Just be aware that from a servicing perspective some of the specific bits for the 753 movement (which I'm assuming it has) can be a bit tricky to get (most of the base movement bits readily available though).
