Thanks to all for the advice and shared knowledge. Went to view but have decided to pass,on general condition. Currently at £5200 so probably going to go too high anyway

Good to hear you were able to make an assessment in person. Prices of Rolex are coming back down towards less ridiculous levels (don't even get me started on ETA Tudor Subs from the same era) but you should be able to find a much better workhorse watch for £6k or less.

Just went for £6240, including commission, so probably too much for what it was anyway.
Like buses there'll be another one along in while, and in the interim more time for research.

I’ve always liked the Submariner - it's such a classic and iconic piece. But for me, I actually prefer the Yacht-Master.

The Yacht-Master just feels a bit more versatile and refined. I love the way it blends sportiness with elegance. The bezel design and the range of materials it comes in give it a unique look that’s both stylish and functional. Plus, the comfort and balance on the wrist are fantastic, which makes it a bit easier to wear daily.

The Submariner is definitely a great watch and has that legendary status, but the Yacht-Master just edges it out for me in terms of overall design and versatility.

Love my submariner. I have small wrists and the watch still wears well. Love the adjustable bracelet and comes in very handy for minor adjustments
