I think I'm with Tom on this one. If the IWC had a different case design the choice would be different. But again, that's personal and just my opinion. More important is, what do you want?

I think i will end up just keeping the Constellation, from what i can tell, i think itll fit my wrist better in comparison to the IWC.
Since he offered to trade, i thought maybe there was an opportunity to gain some value in the gold, since for some reason, he wants this specific constellation. Thought i would check and see if there were anything "special" about the IWC before making any decisions.
Never the less, iv grown to really like this constellation so im sure ill end up keeping it.

A 401 in 18k sold on ebay for $710

Your model in a gold plated case sold for $555

To me. Not the most popular case. Round case Connie would be a different story

Ignore the delusionals asking ridiculous prices for watches that will never sell. Easy to mark it sold and then relist it a few months later

I would give him the Omega with $175 and take the IWC if you want it, but make sure the IWC is running and keeping time

You can do a completed Ebay search and show him the sale prices of the Omega and IWC

DON

Any chance you have a link on that IWC ? i cant seem to find one and id like to show this gentleman.

That is a (terrible) re-dial as you indicated, which makes it not very helpful as a comp IMO.

It also seems to be a different case, with different hands, im not sure i can compare to this.

Details of hands and case aren't a major issue for a comp, since they are secondary influences on price, unless there is something really special. If you try to find only the exact same watch, you'll never get a reasonable number of comps. The case material, size, and condition are the main things that you need to focus on. In some cases, there are other things that have a big influence (like black dials), which is where it helps to have knowledge and experience.

I wouldn't consider that trade for a second. The IWC cal. 401 is nice but it's hardly top of their line. For the same price you could have two or maybe even three 14 kt gold Hamilton watches with a Grade 770, a truly top of the line handwound movement. Although it's hard to compare automatic applies to clock work oranges, the Omega cal. 564 in your Constellation was absolutely top of the line for its time as far as automatic movements were concerned.
