One to wear and one to preserve

When I purchased a 62MAS from one of my favorite OF members several years ago, I remember telling him that it looked so fine that I felt I might be nervous wearing it. He dismissed the idea, saying "It's not NOS." Well, ok, maybe it's not NOS, but it's not far from it ... mint maybe? Not a scratch, not a dent, unpolished, perfect dial and bezel. I wore it a few times, but I was always self-conscious about it.

The solution was obvious in retrospect ... buy another example that is good enough to enjoy, but not too good. Mission accomplished. A few marks on the dial markers, a scratch or two on the bezel, swirls on the lugs, minor polishing. Perfect for wearing! As a little bonus, the wearer came with its original waffle strap, but I've already removed it to save for posterity. 😝

Who else does this. Come on, admit it! I've realized I have several other pairs like these, and I can't be the only one ... I hope.

I tend to pick up multiples of the same watch if I really like them 🙄

Awesome watches!

I have (or have owned) several watches that are in near NOS condition. I usually end op selling these actually, because I can't bring myself to wear them and feel they are wasted on me if they stay in the drawer.

Give me an honest and scratched watch over a NOS piece any day!

However, maybe I'll have to try out your strategy... 😀

Lovely! I'd wear the one on the right into the ground though. Also, this is worse than when I bought a duplicate of a watch for a nicer condition bezel and sold one post-swap.

P.S. Now you have to get the Daini!

I always convince myself to hold onto them with the idea that they will be good for trading. Never seems to actually happen though. 🙄

It may not be very reasonable, but yes I do it too.

I will check back in with comparison pictures at some point, but it seems I have a 165.024 for wearing and one for safe-keeping. Considered selling one, but which would I choose? The one I actually dare to wear (leaving me with nothing to wear) or the one that is a very fine example (leaving me with a fair example only). Decisions decisions..

Exactly. You get it!

When I first discovered the C-case i bought one of these 168.0056 Constellations.

As you do I just kept looking at them even after I hsd gotten this one in hand.

Fast forward a few months and i spy a NOS case...

anyway long story short its so perfect that after wearing it a few times I started feeling scared to wear it, and the C-case bug had truely bitten me by then so I have 3 of these...

I can't say I would get one to enjoy and one to save. I would just assume wear the beauty and let the marks come honestly. Then again, I'm not in the same place in my collecting as you Dan, and none of the pieces I have or have had are quite the icon that the original 62MAS is.

As the kids say "you do you."

All the best

Two with full-length original bracelets and pristine case-backs ... and two to wear. And for some reason, I just purchased a fifth. 😗

I personally don't see the point of owning multiples of any watch. It's why I would say that I'm simply somebody who likes old watches rather than a collector. Give me a watch I can wear without any concern over a safe queen any day.
