One to wear and one to preserve

I personally don't see the point of owning multiples of any watch. It's why I would say that I'm simply somebody who likes old watches rather than a collector. Give me a watch I can wear without any concern over a safe queen any day.

In all fairness, the watches I showed aren't worth putting in a safe, but I take your point. On the flip side, you can just throw an extra watch or five in a spare drawer, and they take up very little space. How many watches can you realistically wear. If I limited myself to watches to wear, I'd only have 20-30. 😁

I bought so many Ed Whites over the years with this in mind, finally settling on the 64 blue bezel to wear and the mint 65 to preserve

From a collecting stand point it makes sense and I see nothing wrong wanting to preserve a piece in original condition. I've done the same thing too, just not with watches yet.

Exactly- there always needs to be those in any hobby who are the stewards of reference examples. I personally don’t have that need, but I admire those that do.

I’ve decided to do this with my Constellation. I managed to find a 14900 in absolutely superb condition - but now I find I don’t wear it all that much for fear of it getting damaged. I’ve decided to search for a date version of the same watch - that doesn’t have to be in perfect condition - so I can still enjoy wearing one without the worry of spoiling it.

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone contributed that cliche. 🙄
