I got the Globemaster exactly one year ago today, so thought I’d post some thoughts and photos. I’m well over the honeymoon faze, but still love it. I picked up a Seiko SKX013 shortly after getting the GM as I wanted a beater, but I’ve worn the Globemaster every single day without any desire or need to take it off, so the Seiko hasn’t seen much wrist time. Its definitely been a great everyday watch.
I’ve come across a few questions on social media from people with smaller wrists considering it, but were asking about how the size wears. My wrist fluctuates between 6 - 6.25 inches, and thought I’d add my experience and photos here for anyone interested. Not the best photos, but I there more for size reference relative to a smaller wrist in different light both photographing straight on and via reflection. I noticed that the iPhone has a slight fish eye effect where the straight on shots have the lugs reaching the edges of my wrist, but in reality the the lugs are slightly shorter. The mirror photos show this.
I personally feel comfortable wearing the GM, but I wouldn’t want to go any larger. It has a 39mm case size, but wears a little larger due to the uncluttered dial, the indices pushed to the outer edges of the dial, and the “coin edged” bezel drawing attention to the outer edge of the case. The case is chunky, but I’ve found that wearing on the SS bracelet really balances out the heft of the case. Alternatively, I found wearing the leather strap a bit more snug on the wrist also helped to balance the heft of the case as it’s more attached to the wrist as opposed to feeling like a weight is dangling from it.
Curious to hear how others feels about the size.
Also, a shout out to the Omega boutique in Hong Kong on Russel St in Causeway Bay. I took the GM on the leather strap in there and asked if they could punch an extra hole in the strap as the smallest fitting was too loose, that they happily did it free of charge. Did a perfect job. The strap it came with flares out to match the gentle curve of the case, and can’t be folded down, so it always jutted out, not only wearing too big for me, but also made my wrist look even thinner and the watch larger. After the hole was punched it looks and wears much better. Maybe it’s frowned upon to punch a hole in an expensive strap, but I’m much happier for it.
Perceptions and opinions seems to vary. TGV felt that the GM is for the larger wrist, where as Teddy Baldassarre wants to acquire one and he has small wrists too. Tim from Watchbox reviews felt it can be comfortably worn on a smaller wrist... I don’t believe Teddys review has been posted here (apologies if it has) so here it is:
