If you can get Neil Armstrong engraved too........I don't know....maybe an extra level of interest to some on Ebay?

I think there's a bit of trust that all parts were originally on a vintage watch when we buy it. Often parts could have been replaced with correct vintage parts without knowing. In the same way there's trust that the inscription was actually made in 69 signifying something special to the owner. I'd be exceedingly surprised that someone added it later, especially since most agree it doesn't add monetary value.

Anyway if I would have to add something it better be Buzz Aldrin as his watch hasn't been found yet. Then I can say it was a 145.012 after all 馃槑

still not good 馃榿

look at the scratch of the 9 it looks like the engraving was done later than the scratch ... but i can be wrong caused by the pic quality

OK, I had another go. I thought I was a stickler for detail, do you seriously think someone would go and add such a date later?

Apologies for the original rib. Not meant as anything else but dry English wit.
I personally don't mind inscriptions. In fact one of my own Speedies has a name engraved. It's all about looking to establish provenance, as has been stated.
Many military watches I often question. In terms of used in action versus sold commercially......

I got an answer from the seller in Spain! Here it is unedited: needles being "hands" which I commented on because of the painting of them. I even got a hug! Must have overpaid! (Just a joke as I paid just north of "good" for this reference on the Speedmaster101 site INCLUDING the bracelet! Now if the extract confirms shipping to Spain I'll be happy.

"Hello, I'm glad to hear from you.
This watch was bought from a man from Salamanca, his son sold it to me.
They gave it to the father for his wedding.
Bought in a jewelry store in Salamanca many years ago by this man.

And to this day a single owner. We bought it three weeks ago.
I hope what I enjoy and about the needles ... they came to us like that.

Thank you very much for everything and a hug."

No apology needed! Thanks for posting. You'll see in my previous post that I got some more info on the watch.

Well I would go back to the seller. Just for kicks. To see If you can establish a link with the original owner.
Get an extract of archives ordered from Omega (not sure if you did that).
There's fun to be had in putting the pieces of the jigsaw together!

this is the 105.012 i bought this case back was engraved with the first owners name RG RUTTER

I've contempating getting it lazer welded as you can see some one tried to grind off the name to make it look better but the more I look at it the more I think its part of the watches history

I agree about it being part of the history of the watch. At repainted white hands I do however draw the line! They're getting re-done as soon as possible!

-Others who, like me, think that an old date inscribed on case and bracelet add to the overall package.

I will go get a date inscribed on mine and post a pic and ask you how you feel about it 馃槈 ?
( Am not hinting that you got it done yourself, I am just trying to explain it to you that the shouldnt matter even to you unless its done by you yourself.)

The reason it adds value to me is because it's part of the story of the one-owner watch which is still original, including bracelet. Of course it doesn't have to mean anything at all to anybody else. It's interesting to hear how other feel about it though.

It's still not perfectly in focus, sorry. I've put it on a strap for the time being. While I like having the original bracelet and will always keep it with the watch, the 1039 has never instilled me with confidence. I think the 1116 and 1171 are much stronger.

By the way, I assumed the date was 10 June 1969. Could it be 6 October 1968? I don't know how the date is abbreviated in different countries.
In this case it鈥檚 the 10 of June because the month goes on Roman numerals. The year would not change either way.

I can't believe I'm the one asking this but do you guys really need to keep pissing in the OP's punch bowl? You all made your points.

Thanks for coming up for me. Don't worry though, my enthusiasm for this watch is only increasing after the additional info I got from the dealer. I do think however that the tone of some posts is not how I want my kids to be when they're all grown up........I think it's un unfortunate side-effect of the anonymity of the web and most of the people here wouldn't talk like that to their fellow watch-lovers. At least I hope not!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guarantee it's not 6 October 1968.
