I’m embarrassed to admit I like the Seiko more than the Omega.

If I had the money Omega ! I have a couple of Seikos and I don't see any models that I truly long for ( except for an alpinist). There are however several Omegas that I want to have starting with a Globemaster and a Planet Ocean.
However it's the general feeling about the 2 brands not specifically to the models in the article.

I'd wear either, but Seiko is going to win it in the dial details department and case finishing. You simply can't beat the Grand Seiko artisans on final finishing at this price point.

Well I have the omega 300. It was the first modern omega I bought. I originally intended to get a PO but after trying both on, the Omega won hands down. I think Seiko make fantastic high end watches but the only way to really know if you would like one more than the other is to try them on.

I like both...have both Seiko and Omega. May get another Omega and also may get a Grand/King Seiko as well. 😉

They both look great watches and both capture the history of each make. I have several Omega and Seiko divers, would be a hard choice to decide between the two if I had the money to spend, but I have to say the Seiko is just tipping the scales slightly 👍

I love the 300mc esp the Spectre version. That Seiko is gorgous.. but seems a little lower market to me still.

My meager collection is almost exclusively made up of Seikos and Omegas and in this case, I think I prefer the Seiko.

I am confused, however, by Seiko's marketing decisions. Why are these up-market Seikos not branded as Grand Seikos? They went to the trouble to establish two brands but they keep releasing Seikos that seem to deserve the Grand moniker.

Both great watches and I think the SLA037 is the winner for me , but I won’t be buying either as the SLA017 is the real winner for me . Obviously biased as it’s the one I own ,but it really is the best VFM watch I own .

Love the SLA017. I had one in my hands in a Seiko dealer a few years ago and for some reason I left the shop without buying it. Duh!

Do I have to choose? Both are excellent brands. SEIKO mechanically might even be a superior watch... I am referring to the high end line, Grand SEIKO, etc. Seiko initially marketed to the USA relatively inexpensive watches, thus when many in the US think of Seiko they think inexpensive quartz watches... not true.

Seiko movements dominated the Swiss watch industry's Neuchtel Chronometer competition in the late 1960s as did Omega. “ Google Seiko Swiss Watch Competition.”
Seiko has always been an innovator in regards to their movements. Many are unaware that Seiko produced a limited edition of 8 pieces, the Credor Fugaku Tourbillin, which sold for 500,000 Euro.

Now, if you asked me, do I wear my Omega Speedmaster 105.012-66 more then my Seikos...... you bet. But, they are both superb watches.

Cool interesting article. Between those two models I actually like the look of the seiko more although I haven’t personally worn either one. Yes I did at one time look down on seiko, it was a contempt prior to investigation thing and I’m glad I got beyond that. Neither of these will be in my wheelhouse and I like both but I do appreciate the seiko a bit more

Because they are reissues (and quite faithful ones), of Seikos, not Grand Seikos. Seiko treats these as different brands, despite the „Seiko“ in both names. It would be like Rolex reissuing a Tudor Snowflake Sub.

If we are considering the two models posted in the article -- I would have to go with the blue dial Seiko. BUT.... I would overwhelmingly choose the Seamaster 300 166.0324 over either of these two models.

Although I truly love my Seiko and GS -

Thanks!

I know this is going to sound like brand snobbery but the SLA037 should be sold as a Grand Seiko. Once you pass a certain price point most people are also going to want the premium name. Does anyone remember the VW Phaeton?

That red dial is very interesting it really pops. Is that a LE? I’m really not up on grand seikos other than seeing them here and other watch sites.

Between the two, it's definitely the Omega for me.
Can't see myself ever spending that money on a Seiko.
