Completely normal.

And a serious note in response to the jokes, JLC actually has a mechanical clock that doesn’t need to be wound called the Atmos. Pretty interesting stuff

Are you sure it had actually stopped and you do not just THINK that it had stopped?

I can report that this also happens with the new 321 movement. A couple of weeks without wear, and I’ll pick it up only to find it running…

A life of its own

I've noticed this with several of my mechanical watches, expensive and cheap alike, but... does it run for over 2 hours? Usually the main spring has some stagnated tension/energy remaining that gets "released" through the acceleration when picking it up... But usually not for much more than 2 minutes, let alone 2 hours.

My G-Shock runs for years without winding.

But I bet you once it stops, it stopped for good!

Only mechanical watches have the magic of sudden resurrection!

I think it runs for a few minutes before settling down. I always thought it was simply due to the kinetic energy of me excitedly picking the watch up. Or the heat from holding it in my hand / wearing it.
