This artificial confected bullshit is one to get.

Yes if you want to to pay over the odds for something little more substantial than a marketing snow job….l will concede it is a masterclass in marketing bullshit, but I prefer a bit less sizzle and a better cut of steak!

History versus Celebrity.
Oh that is goood! That makes so much sense. One isn't better than the other. Both great quality and both will out last me. However, both has two different personalities. History versus Celebrity. Awesome

Platona or bust…

And by bust I mean Speedy.

God how have I missed the existence of this thread. So much for me to facepalm.

DCT are not automatics!!!! They are automated manuals. SMG’s are better then both but a dead tech unless your in F1 or LeMans prototypes. Or pretty much every other racing on the planet.

Manuals with a manual clutch are dead in racing. The increase in workload vs an automated clutch system like SMG is just to high. As an owner of an automated clutch car I can tell you that Hans (what I called the computer and hydraulic system) always did perfect up and down shifts faster then any human could without having to be Hans Struck on the three pedals.
Yes you are of course correct transmission technology has moved on from our old friend the manual gearbag.......but there is great satisfaction to be had from truly mastering the manual transmission, and by that I mean mastering heal toeing the 3 pedals, the double declutch on non syncro gearboxes or those that the syncros are worn and even clutchless gear changes when the clutch cable of hydraulics have given up the ghost, with skill a patience the gears can still be changed with out a clutch. (bloody hard to get the car rolling again after stopping though, but even that is possible)
A pleasure that most of the younger folk of today will probably never know!

That is a good way to end this debate.. buy both. However, how do you compare the two when you have had both.
I have a small wrist so I like how Daytona wears snugly on my wrist. The speedmaster wears flatter and marginally larger in comparison.

I own a fully manual e46 m3 for a reason. But if I tracked it I’d have the SMG.

You will pry that car from my cold dead hands or when I find an affordable air cooled 911.

I've worn a Speedmaster since the 70's, started with an 861 with a Bracelet, NASA back, I think Reference ST 145.0022. Wore it until it was lost sometime in the early 90's. Then in 2015, an 1861 Hesalite with the new bracelet with screws, the Big Box set. Bracelet was not comfortable so got a strap w/deployant clasp. In 2021, the new 3861 Sapphire Sandwich came out and I immediately went for it, finally, a Speedy that hacks. Initially wore it on the strap until the parts to make the Bracelet clasp adjustable became available. Was 100% happy with this until i saw a Speedmaster with the white face......damm, here we go again. Was on a wait list for about 5 months. As I had just considered a Rolex Polar Explorer in addition to my 3861, looked at one and found it kinda clunky and disappointing, not only the watch but the whole dealer dog and pony show, I got the white Speedy. It's much more elegant than the Rolex, satisfied my white face urge and is, under it all, the familiar face I've been used to for many years. I've worn it every day since I got it October 27th 2024. Looks like a keeper. I'm kinda convinced that Omegas are worn primarily by Watch people who love their watches, a lot of Rolex watches are worn by people who want to be seen wearing a Rolex. One of the nice things about a Speedmaster is, unless you know what it is, it doesn't attract a lot of attention. On the other hand, I do really like the Rolex Milgauss. I guess it's time to update my Avitar.
The Daytona is ok, but Rolex's current marketing scheme of a multi-year wait list to pay list price and the "Certified Pre-owned" game where you pay $3-5k over retail for a used watch that's immediately available is seriously slimey.

PhilF, reading your likes backwards, is the same as your posts forwards. What's the chances of that?

I mean, that's pretty hot.

Maybe this is where the Daytona has the edge, because while I don't find myself thinking most of the steel versions are that attractive, the precious metal versions are pretty nice looking.

(the white gold speedies though- holy smokes!)

Same. I have no love for ss Daytona, but the PMs are delicious. The latest 12 series are stunners. AND…they look even better on a woman’s wrist. This is the ultimate his/hers bling —At least that’s what I’m trying to sell to my wife 😀

I always felt the dial of the Daytona is a mess. Wore one for a while (116520) but the dial is so cluttered, I actually thought it's just not that easy to quickly read the time (compared to a black & white Moonwatch dial). I also like the case shape of the Moonwatch much much better. I don't think the Daytona is a bad watch, on the contrary, I just don't like the looks.

☝️this, plus the screwdown pushers, butt ugly IMHO.

Also weird that the 9 and 3 o’clock subdials couldn’t be centred and aligned with the middle of the dial.
At least they made sure that the indices are the same length as the 10 and 2 o’clock ones so that it looks more uniform all around.
