Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Rattling

Hello all,

I have a strange issue with my Moonwatch which is 2 months old. Its on the short nasa strap and if I lightly shake it there appears to be a faint rattle. Is this normal? Most posts regarding rattling say its abnormal, however its extremely faint and it just maybe my OCD, however just to be sure I thought I'd double check if I need to take it in for a check up.

I've recorded the sound on my phone, but it sounds louder than it is.

Thanks.

Do you live near an Omega Boutique? Not all have technicians on site to check, but you can call and ask and explain what is going on. They will be very friendly and try to help, even if you didn鈥檛 purchase it from a boutique. If you aren鈥檛 near a boutique, find a local watchmaker by searching online and reading about some reviews/talk to them to see if they have the experience that is comfortable to you. They may be able to tell you and it may be something relatively small that they can fix 馃憤

I'd take it into an AD and have them check it out. If for nothing more than piece of mind. Especially if its only 2 months old and still under warranty.

100% agree with Theluglife. It might be a pain losing the watch for a few days but if you are not sure use the warranty to get it checked out - then you can relax and enjoy the watch.

So apparently it was the antimagnetic/dust cover rattling against the casebook. They said its within tolerance and left it as is. So nothing to worry about 馃榾

Hmmm....who did you take it to? That cover is not supposed to rattle around - pressure from the case back pressing against that cover is what holds the entire movement firmly in place in the case. There are casing screws, but those only hold the movement to the enlargement ring (movement spacer) and the spacer is held in place but the antimagnetic cover, which again is supposed to be pressed on by the case back. That's what the little "nipple" in the middle of that cover is for - to contact the inside of the case back.

Took it to the Omega Boutique in Central London (on Regent Street). Do you reckon I should take it to an independant watch maker?

That would void the warranty, but I would take it back and have them look at it again, or take it to another Omega location. There should not be a rattle coming from inside the watch.

I'll do that, thanks.

@Archer I do have a question, if the dust cover is moving around and since that's keeping the movement in place, wouldn't this motion either move the dial or detach the movement from the dial?

If it is the anti-magnetic cover, then as I've mentioned the entire movement would be rattling around, and the dial would move with it.

Did they actually open the watch and look inside it?

They apparently did(took it round back into the store), I had my caseback sticker still on and it came back removed, they also said they had to pressure test it as they had opened the case back.

Then their answer doesn't make any sense at all to me...

Right, I'll go to one of the smaller boutiques then. Thanks.

Yeah, @akshaydashrath, whatever happened to this dustcover nipple pressure issue?
(Well darn, he hasn't logged on since Halloween.)
