I was able to put a deposit down first thing this morning. There were a couple left in the system (probably not anymore). Or, people are asking for refunds because they feel it is underwhelming. I am excited about it having the Master Chronometer and feel the gold was tastefully done on the watch. Additionally, I like the gray dial! I feel lucky to have reserved one! And besides...having an ass on my wrist?!?! #win!

I do like the fact they included the Hasselblad fiducials with the boot print on the reverse.

Mainly because of the image on the 9 o'clock subdial, I was at best ambivalent about this when it first appeared today, and more contemplation is just drawing me further away from liking it.

Differentiated subdials in general don't grab me and this one is made worse because I don't think it symbolises the event particularly well. Apollo 11 was the first moon landing so how is that symbolised well with an image of Buzz backing part way down the ladder? Symbolising with Neal Armstrong standing next to the US, or a blank, flag (to be neutral), or an image of the LEM on the surface to represent the first landing, would have been more relevant IMO. As others have said, the footprint also would suit better.

I suppose Omega is closing in on the point where there isn't much more they can do with new Speedmaster LEs that really excites because so many different "touches" have already been done. The comments in this thread seem to support that. The exception to this IMHO was the Apollo 8 DSOTM which was genuinely different. If I get the call from my OB I can't see myself following through with buying this one.

Not digging the Mooning man, the '11', and the crosshairs. Disappointing considering all the secrecy and hype.

What are the chances we get a 105.012 reissue in Platinum for the third version? Lol

Wondering why they used that photo versus the one where he was closer to the moon's surface. I feel like the moon's surface should be more prominent, but maybe they liked his leg out more?

Well that was quite disappointing. As others have mentioned, I can't stand the 9 o'clock sub-dial. I think differentiated sub-dials are problematic from a design perspective because they generally ruin the symmetry of a dial. This is particularly so when the image used is overbearing, loud, or busy...which Buzz mooning us is! If only there was something subtle to put in the sub-dial, like say, a foot print. In seriousness, I would have loved for the dial to be free of any nonsense (no 11 at 11, no differentiated sub-dials) and just be a clean crisp dial. The foot print and quote on the case back are nice though and I love the bracelet (I'm buying it if they eventually sell the bracelet alone).

Overall, this watch doesn't do anything for me (but it isn't bad either). That's BEFORE revisiting the earlier issue of price. I'm glad I pulled the deposits I had down and just picked up the (awesome) "regular" Speedie. Having said that, to all those who love the piece and pick it up--congratulations and may it bring you much joy over many years!

It’s amazing the amount of hand wringing still going on after the release.

I think I’m more and more convinced of buying a standard Speedy Pro now - while the 3861 looks like an amazing movement, it’s moving further and further away from the 861/1861 and the 321 before it. That’s kind of the appeal for a Speedy to me - it’s basically a vintage watch with a new warranty. We all know that the 3861 will be in the standard Speedy at some point (no way they’d pay for that R&D and not use it), but it’s somewhat disappointing, if that’s the right word, to see how the super traditional model could change. And if it’s not flight-qualified? Woof.

People are hung up on the price, if they offered this at $5350 people would be all over it like a rash. They can't rationalize the far better movement, the design elements (bracelet, pushers, dial, back), NIAID caseback, gold, packaging and the occasion. It is what it is. Omega will sell everyone of these.

Simple. More moon, more detail, more gold, more money.

Judging from the responses, I'm not sure which is more polarizing: Buzz's ass at 9, or the fact that the watch us two-toned?

Your choice, but you would be in a small group who would say 'nyet' at $5350.
