One of the bigger auction houses had their quality auction yesterday!
And there were lots of nice watches,
Pateks, Rolex subs and GMT´s, and of course Speedys!

There were 4 vintage Speedmasters,
and after looking closely at them, I decided to focus on this one:

It is a 145.012-67, serial nr 25008426, Mars 1968 production
I had a chat with the curator (who has helped me before, and that I trust…!!)
and the watch was NOT a one owner watch.
It had been serviced before, but no service record or other papers.

At first glance - My Do You Like The Watchometer went very high!!

The watch was very appealing, and looked very well kept.
The curator helped me out regarding the condition of the dial, and checked with his loupe,
and he could not find any oilstains or marks/scratches from a watchmaker.
The lume had a nice patina, some black spots, and the 2 o’clock marker had some lume loss.
Maybe not that common on 67:s, but the lume had the wobbly/toothpaste look.

The hands had discolorations, and the hour subdial hand had lost some paint.
A bit sad that the condition of these were so low.

The bezel looked amazing, with only some small dings and scratches!

And the side of the case had nice edges, and lots of brushing.
Some small scratches and marks, but nothing that stands out.
The caseback had one visible scratch, and a very small mark after an opening.

Original crown and crystal, dirty pushers - so these could be original also.

The movement looked clean, some discoloration to the copper pieces, no damaged screwheads.

With the assessment above - I do think that the watch would be a Good plus.
And a bonus with the nice 1039 bracelet.

The starting bid was 6950 € / 7450 $ including the premium
And this watch got lots of bids, and finally the hammer landed at 9150 € /9750 $ including the premium!!
In my opinion - a very nice watch for a decent price!
I do hope that a Forum member won the watch, and might show it here!

Enjoy, and as usual - please do comment!

I saw it and followed the auction closely although i came for other pieces.

My Do You Like The Partsometer for bezel, dial and bracelet was telling me it was a hard buy, what about the pushers though? Are thin-neck pushers accepted in a 145.012 67? I had the feeling they should be fat-neck and very difficult to source, and if so, what is the impact on the overall grading of the watch?

happy to hear those with higher education on the subject of course.

Well, this is a 145.012 rather than a 105.012, so those pushers are fine for this watch. I think the assessment above is pretty spot on. Minor addition; I like the dirtiness and the fact that at least one of the spring bars is the original one. This watch could clean up quite nicely, except perhaps for the lume and hands showing their age a little too much.

Still, I have been bidding, but unfortunately didn’t win… Better luck next time.

I think that the winner of the watch might have been to the viewing, and felt confident with the watch?
The curator told me that it was one of the nicer Speedys that he had handled for a long time...
😀
What did you think about the other Speedys?

Seems like a nice honest watch assuming the movement is correct and in good shape.

It was. And it wasn’t. Broken mainspring and a long overdue service, but the movement seemed correct, complete and undamaged (clean screw heads).

Lots of grot and dirt sometimes hides a good honest watch, that rear seal though!!

Followed the auction as I was interested in an other watch they offered.

Not a speedy expert but this would have been the example I would have choosen. As this is not my price range I stay with the cheaper things.
