Forums Friends, here we go again!

This Speedmaster almost gave me a headache…

The auction house had lots of pictures, but when I asked for more, nothing happened.

There was no picture showing the inside of the caseback, and no movement picture.
And they did not have the reference….

The pictures showed a ”ridge” or a possible step…
Some 145.022-74 do have stepped dial, so it might also be a 74…?
I could see the serial nr on the papers, and this showed 31617496.
Which would have a production date around June 1971.
Thanks @eugeneandresson for your lovely website!

But they stated that the papers were stamped 8.8.75…
Not unheard of before, but maybe not so common?

And I have a 145.022-71 with a higher serial nr (3283xxxx).

I did receive some more pictures a few hours before the auction, and also with some info…
The info was that the dial was scratched, I asked again about this, and they answered that they ment the crystal….
Kinda nervous before the auction….::facepalm1::

Going on to the condition based on the pictures…

Dial - if correct with no scratches or other blemishes -Good plus/Very Good,
above this - I had to have it in my hands...

Lume plots - Very Good, perfect color, full coverage and only a small dark mark on the 3 marker.

Hands - it looked like there had been some paintwork done to the white parts, not a biggie...
Bezel - there are 2-3 small marks..and some minor scratches,
there is something going on between the 85 to 110 markers?
Good

The case and case back - sharp and nice unpolished lines and edges, with brushing visible.
There were a few scratches and dents, but nothing disturbing.
No marks from a botchy opening.
Good plus

Dirty pushers and crown, and they could be original to the watch.
The crystal was very scratched.
No movement pictures, but a service is always needed when going after these watches!

It had a 1171 bracelet and 633 endlinks.
And there was also the box and papers.

Adding up everything above - the watch did light up my Do You Like the Watchometer….!!

The estimate was 4420 € / 4830$ - 5160 €/5630$ including the premium.

With this in my mind, I made up my Master Plan and waited for the auction to start.

Lots of bids came in, and the biding went just above my max…
It ended at 5910 € /6450 $ including the premium!

I think that the buyer won a very nice watch, with a decent price.
A value for the B & P, and the bracelet - maybe 1200 $, placing the head at around 5200 $.
And using Williams (thanks @Spacefruit ) beloved price chart - the watch got a Very Good!

I do hope that a Forum member won it, and will hopefully show the watch here??

Enjoy the pictures, and please do comment as usual??

Box is kinda early for that watch but that is nit-picking. Nice watch.

This is an example that I would be happy to have in my collection. Very nice all around - especially that patina! Bezel insert and case are also lovely. Thank you for sharing another data point Hans - much appreciated.

We did the right thing David....!
But so close to get carried away in the biding...

I actually had your recent 71 that you sold in March this year as a reference watch!
That was a true gem!!

They do come up for auction sometimes, but not so often as before!
And I always learn something new every time i do my research, there's more out there to catch!
