Good morning lovely people of OF.

I have been offered this Omega Seamaster - Anakin Skywalker 1970s Ref: 145-023 and was wondering if you would be willing to take a look at it and share any insights, observations, or warnings about the beast.

The owner is asking $5000 USD for the watch and says that it belonged to his recently deceased father who purchased it new in Singapore in the early 70s. For the last 35 years his father has had it sitting in a sock draw...

The photos aren't great, but I did manage to get the new owner to take it to a watch maker to remove the case back. It looks to be scratch free which isn't a surprise given the invincible material it's made from but there does seem to be a very small bit of damage to the tachymetre at 7 o'clock. Given its comfy life spent in the sock draw the watch obviously hasn't been serviced recently but the new owner did say that it was running beautifully.

That's about all I know.

What do you all think of the condition of the watch, the requested price, and are there any gotchas in respects to this reference that I should be aware of.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

That's a great looking example and IMO a strong buy at, or around, $5K. Looks in all original shape with most importantly no chips out of the Vickers tungsten case.

Great example, all original (including the rare 1166/171 bracelet) and the serial is in the range according to my archive. I own one of these and they have one of the most beautiful dial omega ever made.

Please, dude, buy it to stop my temptation! I saw the listing, and the contact details on another listing, and immediately checked my rainy-day watch fund…

@Boojumhunter where else did you see it listed? It was being sold in New Zealand on ‘TradeMe’ but didn’t sell. That’s why it was offered to me at a slightly reduced rate. That being said I have decided to decline the offer, not only because I'm currently not in the country but also because I doubt I'd actually wear it as it's such a massive piece of machinery (I sometimes find my Speedmaster too big). If you're in NZ and have a TradeMe account then I'm sure he'll post it again...

That is a lovely watch.

I do wish that the star wars nick names were not attached...watch collecting is nerdy enough without adding that kind of extra flourish.

I think it was a great buy, the best price/quality ratio that has come to market in years

Now you only have to convince her that you need to make the pair for completeness 😉

This is my fathers watch which he gifted to me for my 40th birthday. He wore it daily for newly 30 years. My brother received its twin from my uncle a few years ago, they are 3 serial number apart. These are amazing watches.
