The boutique did divulge to me through some watercooler chatter that the delay was due to the case maker not meeting Omega's standards in the initial production run. They had to redo the entire production at the risk of disappointing the customers. It makes me respect Omega for caring about the fans.

I'm not surprised.

I suspected the watch failed QC.

You are very unlikely to get confirmation of that by an omega employee, even at an OB - i did ask 馃榾

Omega have been known to take a while to ship new units, (as have every other high end watch maker). But this one was longer than normal. I can only assume it was a QC / parts issue.

I can confirm that the case is incredible on this piece.

It sits beautifully on the wrist, is the perfect size, wears flat, has gorgeous extended, old school lugs and a lovely traditional omega brushwork on the sides. There is a bevelling on the inner lug to. Quite a technical shape. They did a great job.

Completely lucked into this the other night - I was obsessively revisiting the 1948 models on the Omega site and, out of the blue, the item had an "Add to Bag" option. Earlier in the day, that option was there but clicking on it gave me an error message, and Omega customer support said that the item was sold and the site hadn't yet updated. So when I clicked on this one, I expected to see the error message again - but, to my surprise, it hit my shopping cart! I bought it, expected the purchase to be voided for lack of stock, yet it shipped, I got it today, and I love it. I particularly love it because I'd forfeited my short-seconds model deposit a few months ago, lived to regret it and, over time, started to focus on the center-seconds alternative. My wife walked me through why she thought it superior to its sister model and, as usual, she had a point.

But here's the weird thing: when I got it and opened it (beautiful box, by the way - see earlier threads for it)...it just kinda sat there for me.

But when I took these photos and looked at the photos, not the watch, I realized my eyes were tired for the day and the razor-sharp details in the photos really popped for me. Now, going back to the piece, I see it all and totally get it, and love it.

It's a little thicker than a pure dress watch would be, ideally, but this will straddle work and informal situations beautifully.

Good luck to everyone waiting for their order to come in on these models, and for those who thought they missed the boat, keep checking the Omega site - you never know!

OH! And under the magnetic base in the storage box are a Nato strap, a springbar tool and...a second leather strap, the same as the tan, main strap for the short-seconds model. What a fantastic surprise.

Congrats! That's some luck you've got there. It does certainly sound like the small seconds model sold out much faster than the center seconds one, so these random ones that showed up on the Omega website may be ones that others forfeited as well. From what the OB told me, the small seconds has a long waiting list even beyond the 1948 count, so I doubt it will pop up randomly on the website as an add to cart option. It's been a year now since my deposit, can't wait to pick the small seconds model up this weekend!

Congratulations. Great to see another one delivered.

The case shape and look is like no other modern watch I can recall which makes it special for me. In fact it鈥檚 quite unique even considering older models; being a copy of the original.

The thickness certainly looks more on photos. It鈥檚 only 11.3-11.6mm thick which is decent, especially as it has a master chronometer / co-axial movement inside.

It鈥檚 a fantastic watch and for me it works both formal and casual.

I think I saw one of the center-seconds models in the Sydney Omega Boutique the other day. I'll see if I've got time to confirm it before I leave maybe

EDIT ahh you know what, looking at the website I think it was the Pt one cause it had gold accents and a brown strap. Nevermind

If someone is quick, they can snag the 1948 small seconds on the Omega website at this very moment!

He's finally here! Son, meet your grandpa. Also picked up a copy of 'A Journey Through Time'. This is one of the most beautiful timepieces I've ever laid eyes on, and certainly worth the year long wait. I will pass this onto my children someday, as I journey through time...
