Omega PO and eBay authentication program

I am so far unimpressed with the eBay authentication program based on the OF anecdotal evidence.

Acknowledging significant confirmation bias. 😉
Yeah my experience is a sample size of one. But it does make me feel they are not looking closely at the watches as they go through the authentication process. As long as eBay continues to provide their satisfaction guarantee it is just an inconvenience when something goes wrong.

I just hasn’t seen any experiences with the program when I was researching after my deal went bad so I was hoping to give everyone on OF my experience, at least.

I think the return would have been easier without the authentication process, because of the regular eBay money back guarantee, but the process worked, it just took a bit longer then I would have liked. I just submitted evidence for my claim and they accepted it right away and without question.

Then to me, there's really no real complaint here. No one on this site is likely ever going to be happy with the authentication program, because the program really isn't designed for people like us. We already know what to look for, and already have more expertise than the authenticators do. You are going to see threads here and elsewhere when things go wrong, and everyone will dump on this program and call it stupid.

There won't be hundreds/thousands more threads when things go right, because when it goes right there's nothing to talk about. eBay wouldn't be doing this just for fun, so clearly there has been a major issue with fakes getting through and people getting burned. For every one "error" like this, I'm guessing many fakes will be caught. This program isn't going away, because for what it was intended to do, it basically works.

This thread proves that despite it going through and this being missed, the sale was reversed and you were made whole. Sure it would have been better if they had caught the dent, but people are human and make mistakes. The back-up of buyer protection still kicked in.

Good analysis, I wasn’t intending to come across condemning the program, just wanted to share an experience of the process and the return because when I was nervously searching and trying to figure out whether I would get my money back, info was sparse. The program was brand new September 2020.
I am sure the program will be great for catching fakes/counterfeits.
