Yeah, I had a look - he is certainly doing well selling parts at those prices!

Glad I could help.

Al: Are there any US based folks who are less expensive? Just to give you an idea what I've been through, I took the watch to a local guy who said he could "match' the part. Take a look at what he did to my watch; not sure where he got that POS hand. There are also large bits of dust on the face now, too.

So he found a generic sub-dial hand and snipped the end off to fit - top notch watchmaking! 🙄

I don't keep track of who is selling these parts, but you could try Otto Frei I suppose. I think all these places are gouging people pretty much since the parts access was cut to the suppliers. Everyone is trying to make as much as they can from each part they have left...

Perhaps he meant 066TP3922 and not 066PP3922? I believe the same hand but for case 145.012? No idea what the difference would be from the one that Al has already checked for what you want.

I hope you didn't pay him.

Why do you need the lume changed as there is nothing on this little hand?

Yeah, that number works. But if the idea is to match the other hands, it doesn't make any sense to recommend that one.

Chris: I'd like the lume aged on face and hour/minute hands.
Are you in Europe (as you were using a UK based supplier)? If so, I use James Hyman for complete dial re-lume. I'm do hands but there are so many things to watchmaking that it isn't worth spending ages trying to learn the dial re-lume skill to his level. He'll do both dial and hands to match and there are examples of his work on here and other places.

The hand is about 20GBP to me- how much is your supplier asking for? You might do better to give it to a watchmaker who'll organise everything for you and deal with James.

Cheers, Chris

I went ahead an ordered the part from the UK guy. He's super nice and does have quite an inventory. I really do want to find someone who ages lume; I've seen Speedys done up that way and I really like it. I think it will go well with my c.1965 JB Champion band. If anyone had this this aging done (and are happy with the results), do tell.

Chris: I'm in the US, but it seems to be hell trying to source Omega parts now. ADs won't do it.

I'm not sure they ever supplied parts to the public but sounds like you've sorted that.

I don't have a recommendation for a dial re-lumer in US but this is what James can do, from another thread. I have no affiliation with him at all but have seen his work and sent him a dial (mine, not a customers) so I could see how good his work really is. Anyway, someone must know a company in the US, so good luck.

Cheers, Chris

Well, as I mentioned earlier, I ordered the hand Archer described and took the watch to The Watchmaker in Stoneham, MA. Just picked it up today and am very happy. The previous butcher put two small scratches on the back cover and one on the face ( hairline on the seconds subdial), but they're hard to see with the naked eye.

Oh, with the JB champion too! Very nice!

...does the sapphire not bother you by the way? ::stirthepot::😁

Indeed, the sapphire bothers the living heather out of me. I am waiting for a swap to be a reasonable possibility someday; be assured I'll get in that line. There are differences from the CK2998 I can live with, but the seconds hand and the crystal aren't two of them....

I'll be really surprised if you manage to get a hesalite conversion, the guy has done it once has refused to do it for everyone around me that wanted a conversion. Might be worth looking for a different avenue if you were thinking about that. Good luck! For sure the FOIS would look so much better on hesalite..

I was one of those who asked. Maybe there will be someone else someday...

Honestly, the FOIS having sapphire was one of the reasons that set me on a long journey of getting a straight-lug speedy. Then a bunch of other things about the FOIS started bothering me. Such a tiny reason that led me to crazy lengths...

But I think it is definitely possible, I think you just need to find the right guy to spend some time with a lot of different acrylic crystals and experiment. There is some literature up on this site that might help you, too.

As I mentioned, I've only swapped out the seconds hand thus far. I would've replaced the crystal long ago had someone presented it as a viable option. The only other thing I might consider in the short run is to polish down the bevels slightly on the lugs. I honestly think they're "semi-twisted." The originals had much more subtle bevels or order to create the straight-lugged appearance. Anyone who might have thoughts on this would be welcome to spill them.
