I've seen a couple of FOIS with replacement subdial and chrono hands to make it look more like an Ed White. But has anyone considered removing the pushers and slightly thinning the side flanks of the lugs? Just curious.

Curious - Why would you do that? Are you looking to better accept 20mm straps?

No. Not the inner lug width, but the outer sides of the case.

If you look at the original 2998, the lug tapers a bit more than the FOIS:

The FOIS lugs are thicker and the bevel is overly pronounced relative to the original as a result:

If one were to mod the subdial hand to stick, to more closely emulate the original 2998-4 (arguably what Schirra wore), then modding the case would be a nice touch. Assuming it was done right. It would take a brave soul to attempt this of course.

If one could replace the pushers with the lower ones would top it off. I'd leave the chrono hand as is. Anyhow, just posing this for discussion.

I don't think it would so much take a brave soul, as one who is willing to give up considerable value in the resale of the watch.
People value originality. Hands can be put back in place. A case that has be ground away, not so much.

On a forum where originality is everything and some can pick a wrong size or coloured screw in a movement from 10 paces.........

This is Omega forum not Seiko mod

I'm sure the mod you are suggesting is possible with the right tools and skilled hands! however, I'd keep my FOIS as it left the factory.

    Your idea reminds me of

I agree that the original lugs look nicer - but I would not recommend doing what you are suggesting - unless you have absolutely no intentions of ever selling it and are comfortable that whoever does it for you isn't going to f*ck it up.

I think anyone who can recognize the difference between a FOIS and an Ed White will still know the difference even if the lugs are slimmed down. So bad idea IMHO

The lugs are the main issue I have with the FOIS, I just can't get behind them. Might be fun to try polishing them down if the resale value on these goes further south, but as there are rumors they'll be discontinued soon I don't think it'd be worth it

Are you sure the lugs were slimmer? You're comparing a current watch to one from 50 years ago.

Perhaps previous service(s) did more than the factory.

My wish is that the tops weren't polished. It would make my 1125 bracelet look a bit better.
