Funny story. I had this watch once and it was one of my favorite Speedmasters that I owned then. I think the reason I was so attached to it had to do with the fact this was the only “professional” Speedmaster which allowed me to see the moon in the same watch which was certified to land on the moon .

Let’s be honest, no one needs to know the moonphase nowadays but the romantic visual connection got me every time. I sold it to partially finance my wife’s engagement ring. It went to a great cause but needless to say I missed it. 10 years later I finally was able to reunite with another model and it will never leave. Go for it! If you don’t fall in love you can always get a Speedmaster Pro. I suspect you might like it.

I too sold mine for a ring, but thankfully (I can only say that now after a couple of years) we did not tie to knot. It was a double whammy as I lost both my favourite watch and someone I thought would be a faithful partner. I then planned to use the money to pick up the new AT GMT Chrono, but instead used it to immigrate. Now all I want to do is pick up the watch again when get my first paycheck; it will then be symbolic to how life can, at times, come full circle. Fingers crossed!

Damn, that is rough. I hope you can reunite with the watch.

Went in yesterday, got them down to $4750, and, well, here it is! Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! Very happy with this, even if I might have been able to source one from a trusted seller for a bit less. It feels good to add a new Omega again -- I've taken a detour over the last year or so and gotten into Rolex and AP, and those are frustrating brands to deal with as it seems like anything I'd want has a really long waitlist. Omega, and more specifically, the Speedmaster, is what started my journey into the hobby, and one thing I've learned since then is that nothing beats the Speedy. I'm also reminded why Omega is my favorite brand: watchmaking that beats anything in the price range, awesome history, lots of variations, no (or at least much less) snobbery, no waitlists (for the most part), and the fact that the brand is just more fun than any others.

Nice! I hope they give you the nicer, newer wooden box. Some folks got theirs in the red leatherette one, they don't keep very well over time. 🙁

Ooh, also ensure they give the lil grey plastic/rubber Pusher to adjust the date and moonphase, no point making two trips!

One of the salespeople helping me pulled out a leather box, then a different one went "I think this is an order model that came in the red box." I have three of the red ones already that came with different watches and they're, err, not great. Fortunately, they were kind enough to give me the newer wooden one, with the pusher tucked inside. 😀

Agree completely on the moonphase. To take that idea even further, nobody really even needs a watch anymore with everyone having a phone on their person at all times. However, in the case of the Speedmaster, for example, there's a romantic attachment knowing that the same watch has visited the moon.

This is actually my third Speedy -- my first ever real watch was the hesalite Speedy Pro, and I added a Grey Side of the Moon a bit later. I've got my eye on a few more at the moment, as well. Honestly, I love the Speedmaster so much that I'm seriously considering focusing almost exclusively on it moving forward.

Pics, or didn't happen! 😜 Let's see the speedy trio!

There was a Gemini IV LE in the sale forums a while ago; what's your next Speedy conquest?

Unfortunately, I split time between the coasts and bought the watch West and shipped it back East to save on sales tax. All 3 Speedies are currently there, unfortunately, but I'll definitely post some pictures of the trio (who knows, it could even be a quartet by then) when I get back East. 😀

I've always liked the Apollo 15 40th Anniversary LE, so I'm looking at trying to track one of those down (if anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears). I've seen them at ADs within the past year or two, so I think there's a decent shot I still find one from an AD. Even the grey market seems very limited on these, so it's going to be a tough one. I'd also like a Tin Tin, but not enough to pay the $8k+ asks I've seen recently even though I think the price is likely to continue to rise for the near future. I also think the DSOTM Apollo 8 edition that came out at Basel last year is pretty cool, but want to see it in person first. I love the dial work, but the jury is still out on the yellow accents. At some point, I'm definitely going to add both a 105.012 and a 145.012, but I want all-original, unpolished examples with the bracelet, and I'm not sure where to find them. Also in consideration are the ST1, the CK2998 from Basel last year, the Apollo 11 45th Anniversary LE, the Gemini IV LE, and the Apollo-Soyuz LE with the meteorite dial. So, to answer your question, who knows? Wish I could get all of them, but unfortunately my budget would prevent that. 😁

Is there a significant difference between the 3576.50.00 and the 3876.50.31? I have the latter and he only difference I seem to be able to make is the former comes with a steel bracelet and the latter comes on a leather strap. Can anyone confirm if there's any other difference in the 2 models?

Nope, no other difference.
Just as I thought. Thanks for the confirmation 👍 Although I do find it kind of strange that they needed to separate it into two models 😕

I love the MP Speedy Pro. As said its the original moon watch with a twist.
I'm still searching for the older version of it...

BTW no one can predict future collectability , but they not made in millions as the normal moon watch...

The resurrection of this thread is timely as I just received a mint 3876.50 from a trusted reseller today. Absolutely gorgeous Speedy. Love the gold circles around the subdials. Moonphase adds a romantic touch and date feature is a welcome addition for me. Don’t want to take it off my wrist. Oh, and the exhibition caseback is very cool.

Here is my slightly different and dressier speedy moon phase. I love the white gold bezel and blued broad arrow hands.
