The number 5900 comes from Omega records stating this was the number supplied from this reference. This information can be found in AJTT and I think on the Omega vintage database. As far as the numbering on the watch - this was done by MoD and probably not sequential.

I know this is old. But how do you know there was only 5900 made ? Here is my case back 6371 so a little more than 5900 pieces limited

the MoD issue numbers reflect the issue in that year. many different brands . not only Omega. and, BTW, I`m selling mine before Christmas; same dial from the 1990 factory stash..... kind regards. achim

Just to join the party ... this was issued to my great uncle and somehow found it's way to my grandfather. My great uncle flew spitfires in the war and in the 50s he was based in either Cyrpus or Malta flying some of the first jets for the RAF. The early history of the watch is uncertain but this retains its original thin arrow (radium) dial. My mother has it now and I regularly pester her to let me have it for a full service and consolidation. I know it was serviced after my grandfather died but I'm sure it's had nothing done since. She threw away the "horrible" canvas strap (I know in my heart that was original too) and put it on a fix-o-flex bracelet.

Maybe a secret split second chronograph?

On top of a refinished dial ?

Thanks for clarifying it is a repainted dial and not an original TA dial by Bienne.

????? there are no original Omega factory dials as leftovers from 1953 in Bienne. never were. again: in the 90`s omega in Bienne did these dials for restorations. that makes it an original TA dial by Bienne. kind regards. achim

In reference to this post by zaf basha - the dial in your watch is NOT like #3.

Hi Achim....

I just looked at your auction. I have to disagree with you as this is not one of the Omega 90s replacement dials as pictured in Zaf's post . For that matter those dials I think were old stock and not a new run from what I remember. I basically bought just about all I could and by the way I had many like 8 or 9 dials from bienne before my source they were exhausted and would not be replaced. But that is another story.

Back to your dial, it is a redial. Achim, you are an advanced collector and as such are held to a higher standard by your piers. There are a lot of members here that look up to you ....Please think long and hard about this....

I mean no disrespect , you have helped me in the past years ago with a jerky ebay seller in Oz....

Like my old boss use to tell me " one screw up ( he used a four letter word instead of a five letter ) ... wipes out a entire year of atta boys !!!"

So the ball is in your court ...

Good Hunting

I will be damned....... this dial has the same source in the factory, as your dials, Bill. But I have to investigate that further ( was many, many years ago.....) and will change the auction description today. a very puzzled achim.......

so, after a lot of searching ...... I had 3 Omega 1953 restored in the factory in the 90`s. one was sold shortly after. this is the one, that I could buy back recently. it never occurred to me, that something was changed. the original hands always gave it away as the watch it was then. the 2. one I kept for myself. and here it is.........
the 3. one was sold to a collector, who kept it. Still not sure , what happened . but puzzle solved. thanks for pointing me to that . kind regards. achim
