Omega Geneve (1970): looking for advice for a couple of new straps?

Dear members of this community,

This is my first post on this forum, so I thought it would be best to start with a brief introduction explaining why I am here...

When my grandfather passed away, my grandmother gave me his watch, an Omega Genève (according to the certificate of authenticity I requested from Omega itself) from 1970. Despite the years that have passed, I still remember that moment and her words clearly: she took my hand, placed the watch in it, and said, “Your grandfather would have liked you to wear this.” I always saw my grandfather wearing this watch; I never saw him with any other, so it has always held immense sentimental value for me. When I’ve worn it, it has felt as though I’m carrying a part of him with me...

I had it checked by a watchmaker and replaced the original metal strap with a leather one. Now, I’d like to give it a fresh look and buy a couple of new straps, but honestly, I feel a bit lost and would really appreciate your expertise and advice on making the right choice when purchasing. I was thinking of a black crocodile leather strap and a navy blue nylon one, but... I’m still unsure.

What would you do in my place? What should I buy, and from which shop?

Welcome and what a nice heirloom watch from your grandfather. Regarding straps there is no correct choice- it is personal taste- your ideas sound good to me- there are many threads about straps some are listed on this post- its fun to mix and match just try out a few options and see what works for you.

I like these 166.041s and enjoy wearing them. I’d always go for a leather strap but tend to change my straps regularly so I generally go for a generic and cheaper strap although quality does matter.

These are my current favourites.

In your situation, I’d probably buy an omega buckle but, again, I’d be happy with an aftermarket one.

May I ask you what was the reason for replacing the bracelet with a leather strap? If it was your grandfather's bracelet and it was in good condition, why not wear it? I also wonder if it was an Omega bracelet?
According to the database, your wristwatch (ref. 166.041) fits three types of bracelets: 1118/582, 1122/558 and 1156/599.

Have a nice day.

Many thanks for your answer and information. Sincerely speaking I didn't even know the reference of my watch!? Because I was looking for it on the official Omega website (browsing with the name "Geneve" and I didn't find anything...). No, my grandfather's bracelet was not an original one and it was in a very poor condition...
The first thing I did was take my now-own watch to a trusted lifelong watchmaker in my city who cleaned and inspected it. There, she suggested changing the metal band to a leather one and chose this brown color because it matched the golden color of the watch hands. By the way, where can I find photos of the bands with these references you so kindly sent me? THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT! It really meant a lot to me!

You are welcome, always pleasure to help.
Just search the numbers I mentioned in Google: omega 1118/582, omega 1122/558, etc.
