One could always start a PM conversation with a trusted vendor, just to establish a comfort level. IMHO, if a vendor has been around a while, built a base of customer referrals and had adequate positive feedback, I'd feel safe dealing with them. If there were unresolved problems & issues, I'm quite sure the folks moderating this forum would have given them their walking papers pretty quickly.
I'm relatively new here and most everyone has been most kind, helpful and informative, I try to be helpful when I can, based on my limited experience, there is a wealth of information here, sometimes finding a specific topic can be difficult, but no one has gotten snarky when I asked something that was (apparently) common knowledge....even when I use run-on sentences.
In any case the OP is at least trying to do his due diligence
Oh yea and also just to get some more names because most people I messaged didn't have that 1st watch I was looking for and I did message a lot of people on the seller list.
Ask one or more to keep an eye out or ask them to try and source one for you.
In the meantime, read and participate in the other discussions. The 200-post rule is also a good idea for buyers, so that the sellers have a better idea of whether you're going to try and reneg on a deal, try to demand money back, post negative feedback, etc.
