I'll try to borrow my wife's phone to get some better pictures. I keep fighting the glare when I try to put it in focus. Gold top means that it's plated and not solid?

For your next sweet deal, hold a cell phone about a foot above the watch, preferably in diffused light (like a north-facing window) and pinch the screen to zoom in. This tends to work in all but the worst retail lighting

Thank you greatly. I appreciate your time. I was wondering why the observatory logo was so worn, and over polishing would definitely explain why. I paid the equivalent of about $180 USD for it, so I think I got my money's worth. If I end up keeping it, I'll need to pay for a service because the rotor has a noticable rattle when I turn my wrist quickly.

If the rotor axle is worn you can even hear the rattle, better don't wear it until it's serviced. A loose rotor can cause quite a bit of damage.

Unless you have a bumper movement in there, in which case the rattle is totally normal. But if the ref 14381 is correct, it should be a "normal" rotor in a 551 movement. Then you wouldn't want to hear anything.
