Hello everyone, I recently inherited an omega constellation which is from the early 70s I believe, the watch was my grandfathers and everything is in perfect condition except the crystal which got a small crack when I took it for maintenance but I have been having some trouble finding a replacement one, so I was hoping this forum could help me find one. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, are you saying that the crack happened whilst the watch was in for maintenance?

If yes, then shouldn't your watchmaker replace this free of charge ?

and PS - thats not a small crack - thats a large one !

PPS - pity, as its an original Omega crystal, as it has the symbol in the centre of the crystal

Yes the crack happened whilst the watch was in maintenance and they are going to replace it free of charge but they told that I needed to find the crystal myself, so any help finding one would be appreciated.

That should ne their job...but if you can tell me the case number inside the case back, I'll look up the part number for you.

Cheers, Al

Well unfortunately due to the quarantine in my country I am unable to go to my local watchmakers and I currently don't have the tools nor the experience to open up the watch, but as soon as I’m able to get the watched looked at, and get the number inside the case I will let you know, thank you very much.

I have not yet looked at any websites other than this one, this is my first time with a problem like this so I figured I’d start in the forums, but with that being said I will definitely check out this website. Thanks.

Any chance you can call the watchmaker who did the damage, and see if they made a record of the information?

Yes I can, but it will have to be on Monday and Im not sure if they’re open due to the quarantine and lockdown regulations in my country. But if they’re in fact open I will give them a call and have them send me any records they may have.

It’s a C case with transitional dial script, a day/date and knurled bezel so has to be a ref 168.029 (unless a Franken which I don’t think it is). It can’t be anything else really!

I don’t know much about the watch itself but I appreciate the information you have given me and will see if it matches when I get the watch opened. Also I believe the bracelet is the “beads of rice” one is that so?

Great watch - and good luck in your quest. I really do think that it should be the watchmaker's responsibility to both source and replace, but I know circumstances and situations can look different from the outside in.
