This is a really nice case.
Can't really fathom why everyone is all up in the doglegs.

Excited about the new arrival today…

Desmond‘s article on the 2887 features two examples with the same dial configuration, so I felt comfortable enough to go for it.

interesting that it has the crossed-t dial,.

would be good to start comparing serial numbers and case back reference on these rare birds.

Another curious detail: The crown isn’t a regular clover, but one of those with more notches, the standard crown for 2761s and 2759s, I believe:

Do we know of other examples of 2887s that came with one of these?

It is indeed interesting. I had previously thought that the transition from the crossed-t dial to the half crossed t occurred earlier, i.e. during the production of the ref. 2652. I may have also wrongly associated the crossed-t with a -RE spelling of the word "Chronometer".

would be good to start comparing serial numbers and case back reference on these rare birds.
I tried to open the case back but it sits so tightly that I didn't dare to force and leave an idiot mark. I will take it to my watchmaker as soon as possible.

Mine seems to be a service crown though given the shape of the logo.

Little update on my 2887 as I made it to my WM today. Boy was the case back stuck.

If it needs further confirmation, it's indeed a 2887. The caliber is 505 and the serial number puts it somewhere around 1958. The case back shows service marks dating to 1964 and 1973, then it must have remained unserviced until today. My WM suggested that the rotor and one of the plates may have been replaced in the past.

Hello all. I have an Omega Constellation Watch with the number 2887-2 SC but have been unable to find out any information regarding the year it was made. Can anyone help? I'm intending to sell the watch and would also be interested to know its value. Thanks for any help.

Need to see pics of the front of it too as the dial is a major factor in value, what’s the serial number on the movement it should be about 8 digits

I can't see any 8 digit numbers - I think there are 3 numbers just under the Omega logo.

Its probably being covered by the rotor, it’ll be under there for sure

Dial is original, some patina, but still not bad, piepan too. Gold-capped case is in good shape it’d be over a grand probably in a no reserve auction on eBay, definitely less than two, probably in the low thousand range with current demand for piepans.

Is that something I can take off to look underneath?

I've just return from taking the watch to a jeweller, who says there are no numbers on inside the case but the three numbers under the Omega logo are 505. I'm taking it to an Omega jeweller next week if possible.

You should see a serial number on any legitimate Omega watch stamped into the movement.....your 505 number is the caliber.

Mine is a 551 caliber

The rotor rotates - no need to take it off.

Look at the pics of @iamvr ’s watch movt above - the serial on his is on the movt at the opposite end of the bridge from the cal reference.

I've taken it to a jeweller for the second time today and they can't see any serial number at all. I'm going to take it to an Omega specialist next week I hope and will find out then. Thanks for all your help.
