@pdxleaf posts a beautiful statue of his naked young wife and you notice the chair?
Ha! Aw c’mon, the guy obviously has great taste in beautiful things. It’s an internet thing, when you look past the obvious and comment on something incidental in the background
It seems kinda like a dumb move to me. Omega obviously has a tremendous following on the moon watch and I know the secondary market doesn’t bring them revenue but the hype and appreciation have for omegas history. Tbh I like seamasters a bit more but I can’t help think it’s cool when someone sells a speedmaster and it incudes the extract. Plus I’m still planning on finding an Ed white for 10 bucks at a yard sale and I need documentation so I can milk every penny out of it so I can get a Richard mill
It's such a shame. I know the extract isn't a guarantee for anything related to the watches authenticity, but for military watches, especially the PAF that I have loved hunting and collecting over the years, these pieces of paper have served an invaluable purpose to validate that the watches were in fact military wear and were delivered to the establishment that had the engraving on the caseback (or, in the case of the elusive 2914, even the movement). This one little fact could make the difference between the watch being authentic or put together with authentic parts and imitation engraving to pass them off as potentially being the real thing (lots of those around in the wild).
I imagine for the kind of watches where this paper validation of it being delivered to the military (FAP, PAF, etc.) is important to establish its validity, the ones that already have an Extract should (in theory at least) become more demanding (I'll refrain from using the word "valuable").
For this reason, rather serendipitously, I am glad I finally applied for the extract of a vintage 2505 that I've owned for several years (just out of curiosity). I recently picked up a beautiful pocket watch (which seems to be my new fascination) and was hoping to apply for its extracts as well...but I guess that won't happen (for a while or perhaps, even indefinitely).
It's worth noting that the Davidoff brothers, who "broke" the news, are rather closely associated with Omega and especially their heritage department and the fact that they seem to claim that this is now defunct with no possibility of a revival, means it's probably very real/likely.
Many of us should write of our dissatisfaction to Omega. I mean many, not just 2 people. It may pass a message, though realistically do nothing
Good idea.
I am in touch with someone in the heritage department directly. This is because of a string of extracts I ordered late last year all of which had a delivery issue. Let me write to him and see what the "official" response is.
Really disappointing news if the service is gone permanently. Surely, it was a nice little earner for Omega with little effort involved, assuming all the records were in a systemised extractable format?
TBH it's been going downhill for years for Vintage Omega fans/collectors, It used to be you could send an email to Marco Richon (RIP https://omegaforums.net/threads/marco-richon-1945-2017-rip.59542/) and get a friendly and detailed reply. Also you could spend hours at the museum and see a ton of old historic watches in basic display cases (now you can see a few watches in a fancy setting). Last time I got in touch about a unique boxed Omega Marine quartz chronometer on display at the museum and never seen elsewhere (books, auctions, internet) and got a boilerplate reply with 3 people cc'd a follow-up went unanswered. They just couldn't be bothered and probably couldn't understand why anyone (i.e. a potential customer ready to drop 5k) could possibly be interested in this.
This has me intrigued though : @PerJ "Especially since Omega representatives have been connected to fraudalent sales of very highlighted pieces." ? Is there a thread about this somewhere ?
