We don’t really. I posted it as bought a new watch the boutique, saw the hang tag on it, but when I got home it was gone. Thought I’d check in here over night before ringing boutique in the morning….. rang boutique and they said it was policy to take it. End of.

yeah, I got that, but since it was enough of a concern to make a post about and for people to comment, just wondering if there's some greater question beyond wanting the price tag

For example, is there a thought the hang tags are like monroney stickers or proof of original purchase or similar?

For me I have the tag for some watches, including a couple of omegas much older so was just curious why it was there on this watch in the showroom one minute, and gone the next minute. Has no bearing on proof of anything imo as the cards and receipts do that.

I didn't even keep the box from my newest SM300, just the paperwork for the warranty. Each to their own I suppose.

Ah, so there is…. Thanks. I’ll save it for when I’m looking for something more exciting to do! Cherrs

And you can lament on the fact 30-40% of watches sold at airports over the last 40 years people have thrown on watches and left the boxes. Had a mate that worked at a boutique at Sydney airport that said they threw boxes out regularly because people didn’t want them and the brands didn’t want them back (postage costs) and they couldn’t store that many…JLC, Rolex, Omega, and higher priced brands.

It’s just us nutters that put an aura around a box and hang tags.

so maybe you can answer: no judgement here, just wondering why someone would want to save the price tag. again, no judgement, just curious.

It's particularly huge in the Rolex community to have the hang tag as part of a "full kit." I honestly don't know how or why it started, but I think the thought process is that it somehow adds to the "legitimacy" of the watch if it has box, papers, hang tag. Each of those things makes the watch more "real."

Which is absurd, because all of those things can be faked.

It’s the well worn green caseback sticker with years of someone else’s DNA collected on it that gets me.

🤮

For me, I like to keep everything, outer box, box, tag, etc. in part, because if I sell my watch someone will probably pay a slight premium for a full set, but more important I want my son to have everything when it gets passed down to him. And, yes I acknowledge many could care less. I have my watch boxes tucked in a corner of my closet and they take very little space so why not. I have a unique collection of shaving razors dating back from the early 1920s to the 1970s (yeah I know a strange hobby) and I can tell you having the original box and paperwork is an enormous plus and brings great value.

I think the Rolex boys like to keep everything because they (moreso than most) tend to see their purchases as "investments".

I think it's just part of collecting. For some, it's important to have everything related to a certain piece for perceived additional value, either monetary or collectible. To others, those are disposable things that don't detract from the main subject: the watch, in this case.

But that's the fun thing about collecting, everyone has their way of doing it and enjoying what they get 👍

@ErichPryde hit the nail on the head…Rolex thing started years ago. Funny as it wasn’t always a thing. Came from the Toy collectors I presume. It started around the time Starwars figures were all of a sudden worth so much for a mint in the box piece.
Box and papers has always been a thing in vintage but all of a sudden it was box papers, hang tag, outer box.

We also see so many people paying crazy money for boxes like Speedmaster boxes

To make box and paper sets to inflate a watch that obviously never came in that particular box.
(Dealers making a full set can be amusing as most that aren’t super knowledgeable often are found out pretty quick by the forum hive sleuths who know the actual box was on sale several months ago)

And like everything as soon as crazy money is paid the fake stuff follows. Nowadays a fake Rolex comes with a fake box and a fake everything

The last watch i got from omega had the hand tag decals but no hand tags, it recently arrived from Omega and arrived in the watch box but I thought I was missing something but didn’t know it was the hand tag hehe, I highly doubt they’ll give me one considering how barebones the boutique is right now.

It probably varies by Omega Boutique. OB #1 called me and asked me if I wanted the hang tag, coffin and all of the boxes. OB #2 just placed the hang tag in the wood box but didn't offer the coffin or the shipping boxes.
