My comment is simply when you put a premium brand in a wholesale environment or discount store it hurts the branding of the company- not the product itself (although Larry, the products JBL and B&W sell at Best Buy are not the same products they sell at higher end stores- you’re not gonna find a pair of 801’s at Best Buy). This is not something I need to illustrate further- anyone in marketing can speak to this point.
Like Al , I purchased my CM10, 5 and Center Channel after auditioning them in a high end listening room on Rotel gear which I also own. Not everyone wants to buy or can afford the 801’s ...Further before I listened to said speakers I read the reviews which were outstanding. B&W and JBL make a wide range of products at multiple price levels. That’s how they stay in business. They didn’t make their other lines for Best Buy. They’ve been making good affordable speakers for years.

I really don’t care where anyone buys whatever they buy, there are some seriously opiniated views on this- clearly, no need to get hostile about it.
I like anyone else appreciate a deal when I find one- my statement is about marketing and consumer perception- if you disagree, that’s fine- but no need to use profanity in rebuttal.
My speaker analogy wasn’t pulled out of the air- if came directly from the B&W rep for the mid-Atlantic. He said when b&W started making their affordable lines available in Best Buy, it seriously hurt sales of their mid-tier products in high end brick and mortar stores. People would go to the mom & pop, listen to a pair of 6 series speakers and go to Best Buy and Buy the less expensive models offered there thinking they were the same product. Their market share slipped in the years following that decision.

I think there is a big difference between B&W and JBL anyway. JBL is owned by Harman International which owns a lot of old line hi-fi brands and is a subsidiary of a tiny Korean company called Samsung.

B&W was also bought out, but by a much smaller tech company.

The bigger the company, the more they have to sell to cover the overhead.

Wherever one chooses to buy a product, fine. Wherever one plots Omega on the luxury watch continuum, subject to debate, but most agree mid-luxury. But, at least from my perspective, selling at Costco reduces brand esteem perception. However much you think the brand has, or hasn't got.

And yet, costco also carries Rolex. Does that equally diminish rolex? I suspect not.

Curious why Costco makes you feel this way, when presumably other grey market dealers do not?

It's not like Omega is making Costco an AD, so this is another area where these analogies to audio equipment completely fail. Unlike speaker companies who may choose to sell a different line of product down market, this has nothing to do with Omega, and in fact they did try to stop it. So why would this change your perception of the brand, when they not only had nothing to do with it, but actively fought it in court? To me, this has no logic behind it.

Does Rolex suffer from market perception because those are sold at Costco? Based on how now even a simple everyday DateJJust has the word "rarity" associated with it, I don't think it has any effect on Rolex, or Omega.

If I pick up a bottle or two of Silver Oak Cab at Costco, does that turn it into 3 buck chuck? Part of being a member and shopping there, are the pleasant surprises you find. This is by design. Shhhh. No ones gonna know if your Speedy came from Costco. Poor Costco ...actually poor me, I should have bought that stock long ago. Pus they take good care of their employees.

Are you referring to me or others? I was referring to my perception. And yes, it does with Rolex for me as well. But let's be clear: it bothers me only to the point where I care to comment on a forum about it, no further.

As much as I like Omega AND Costco, I have to admit that this Seamaster doesn’t appeal to me in the least. If Omega intended to copy Rolex bling to the point of nausea, they succeeded admirably with this model.

Don't know about any of them. Give me some names.
