Well I turned 50 and my wife asked me if I wanted a new watch.
When getting a watch from my wife I have to think long and hard to ensure I pick a watch I won't want to flip.
Ive owned a couple vintage speedies in the past but just never wore them much as I was always worried about beating them up.
I decided to go with a 3861 Sapphire Sandwich!
I got it last week right before we went to North Carolina where I was going to drive an Indy car.
Well we are one week in and while I have several other watches which I usually rotate daily this has been on my wrist every day since it arrived.
I have the new style clasp and really like it, I tend to loosen it up mid day (I may order a half link for it)
I get some people find the new clasp silly but I find being able to adjust it so easily a big bonus. I know you can just do it to the older one with a toothpick but well I don't always have a toothpick handy LOL
This is one of the more comfortable watches I have worn in sometime, I almost forget I am wearing it sometimes.
Despite having wrists just under 7 in I really like the 42 mm, I like it much more than the original size.
Anyway that's about all, here is a wrist shot when I was in the race suit and one of me in the car getting ready to take off.

The watch is cool...

But how was that IndyCar? I've driven a Star Formula Mazda before and it was amazing. I can only imagine these are top tier in terms of experience.

The Indy car was AMAZING! I drove for 48 minutes, hit a top speed just over 160 mph
These cars beat the hell out of you, no power brakes, no power steering and hot as hell but it's awesome!
It was one of the coolest things I have done in a while.
This was at the Charlotte Motor Speedway
This is something I will absolutely do again!
If I ever hit the mega millions I will absolutely be buying a serious track car LOL

Nice! I used to race 410 sprint cars and they beat the hell out of you in different ways. I had always wanted to make the jump to open wheel, but my career just took me in a different path.

Glad you got the experience!

Did you actually wear the new Speedy in the car??
If so, I admire your bravery in what I imagine is a pretty confined space filled with metal bits ready to put the first ding in your new timepiece.

Hell yeah, that's awesome! 😀

I've driven a NASCAR oval + infield road course at Phoenix Intl Raceway and Cal Speedway, in a production car (not an open wheeler like the one you drove) and there is nothing quite like feeling the g forces in the oval and then feeling the track pull the car out towards the wall as you come out of the oval. Something every gearhead should experience at least once in their life.

Congrats on the new watch, bday, and getting the experience that awesome machine on track.
