Transparency dear, transparency. All Omega fans should know how meticulous Speedmaster fans are when it comes to observation skills. And how difficult it would be for Omega to satisfy such difficult nerds. And why not all Omega fans should know such a major controversy!

I thought Rolex fans getting excited about the new SD having red text was hard core. This one's on a different level, I tell ya! Personally, I find the "correct" dial more suited for formal occasions while the "wrong" one goes well with jeans. I swear I could tell the difference from a distance! 😁

Yours has the regular dial. The second variation is shown in
@joerg pic. Maybe he could post a close up of the font on his dial... Here is his pic again.

Roy and Sascha Davidoff are showing off where it is at for the true sm300 vintage look - with a stunning vintage seamaster that is probably out of the park in terms of cost.

I have just bought an NOS 1960s “basket weave”Tropic on line - it arrives on Monday. I am genuinely excited - if only that I haven’t seen another 57 seamaster on this strap and think (hope) that it suits the watch perfectly.

Will post photos when strap arrives - as some other SM owners may be tempted by this look

Just took delivery of my L.E. set, which arrived at my AD on my birthday! I was actually on the fence for a couple of reasons. One, I think Omega has handled this roll-out horribly, from a client standpoint, as they've missed delivery ETAs and never communicated clearly or well. Two, I hate what car guys call "garage queens". Don't know the equivalent term in watchdom, but I'm guessing "safe queens" might approximate what I'm trying to avoid? After opening the box and seeing them for the first time, there was no way I was going to take a pass...

And the unanswered question is: What do you call the part of the "G" that is long or short? 😀

It's too bad this dial/font discussion wasn't started in the "60th '57 Anniversary Speedmaster" thread so the Railmaster and Seamaster fans wouldn't be rolling their eyes.

Do the Railmaster and Seamaster come in two dial variations as well. Both of mine have the short G...

Hi to all. This is either my first post on the forums or my first in a very long time, I'm not sure.

I have enjoyed the beautiful pictures on this thread, as well as the recent discussion regarding the different Speedmaster dials (i.e., the long or short 'G', etc.). I actually have an opportunity to buy one or the other at this time and am unsure which to choose. Maybe there is no wrong or right answer! ;-)

I honestly don't see how such a small difference could matter in the long run; for all intents and purposes the two variants are indistinguishable, but maybe I lack foresight. I guess if you want total originality (not that this re-edition can even provide that) go for the "long G," but assuming each is brand new, I would pick the cheaper one. I will say that I've noticed numerically lower edition numbers (out of 3557) seem to have the long G (2915-1) whereas the higher edition numbers seem to have the short G (2915-2). Mine is in the 2400s and it has the short G.

By ‘short’ or ‘long’ G, you’re referring to the rounded top of the letter, not the horizontal cross bar, right? I can see how confusing this can get!

Of the two I’m looking at, the later edition number has a G that’s longer on top with a shorter cross bar. The earlier one has printing that looks more like the original — the G is shorter on top with a longer cross bar. I think this is consistent with what you’re saying.

I think the original script is a little more pleasing and interesting but apparently more common. A fun but minor detail, no doubt!

Thanks for the two pictures Longbow. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the larger G on the left is found on earlier models of the Speedmaster 60th and is both more common and more true to the original 1957 model, while the smaller G on the right is found on some later models of the 60th. To my eye the big G on the left looks 'long' due to the long horizontal bar, but others refer to it as 'short' since the top of the G doesn't bend down as far. Given the ease of confusing these terms, maybe we need a new name or should focus on the 'p' instead. I realize that none of this is important to many here and almost no one anywhere else!

To be honest I don't know. It was nerdbedusa who first observed it on the 60th Speedmaster, but that was probably because he owns an original CK2915.
