So are you saying you hope the bracelet doesn't fit other models so yours remains exclusive? Interesting. Are you trying to irritate people in every thread you are currently involved in?

It's an interesting question and one I'm reluctant to answer since my goal certainly is not to irritate you. I'm in this thread to celebrate the 60th LE Speedmaster I've reserved and share my excitement with others.

Let me ask you this: If every Speedmaster owner could spend $450 on the cosmetic parts necessary to convert their $2,200 eBay moonwatch into a $5,500 FOIS would that not make you feel a little less special and very much ripped off?

Well... up until now (and still, in some cases) parts for the Gemini IV, Apollo XI 35th, Mitsukoshi etc were available from resellers, and there are quite a few regular Speedmasters that appear from the front at least exactly like these limited editions. In the case of the Apollo XI 35th, even the caseback was available, though it wasn't numbered like the actual LE. I don't think it's bothered anyone, nor has it affected resale values. Since we're just discussing a bracelet, I doubt the same would occur - especially as it's a 19mm bracelet, which won't fit the majority of models. Only the FOIS / CK2998 will accept the bracelet.

Not in the slightest but it is a bad example since the cases are vastly different and the values pretty similar, no FOIS is worth $5500. I don't actually own either 39mm Speedmaster, mine are all 41mm so I am merely putting myself in the place of those who do and don't begrudge them a bracelet which should have been available or included from day one. As above, I seriously doubt anyone retrofitting the bracelet onto another Speedmaster is trying to steal any cachet or specialness from your chosen model so why stress about it? Live and let live!

You have a 1997 replica edition do you not? Should owners of original 1957 Speedmasters begrudge you the fact that you have an official copy, and are about to buy another. If not, how can you get over protective about the new-old bracelet.

It's not a fair comparison, anyway. If someone is able to put one of these bracelets on their FOIS or CK2998, it would not "convert" their watch into a 57 reissue Speedy.

If an owner of a 57 reissue Speedy feels "less special" or "ripped off" a year from now if they see CK2998's on this bracelet, that would be pretty sad.

I'm going to be honest again, and I hope it doesn't irritate you, but if I really think about it I'm buying the 60th for internet acclaim, I really don't care about it in the real world. About half the people I see commuting to Manhattan each day aren't even wearing watches anymore, and those that do aren't paying attention to me or what's on my wrist. I own some damn fine pieces, I wear my sleeves rolled up deliberately at home and at work, no one has made a comment about what I'm wearing in years, I'm all alone out there.

But when I post photos of my watches? Ah, awesome, I like it when others tell me how they wish they could have what I've got. So back to the bracelet, if you can have one and 50 other posters can have one and every Tom, Dick, and FOIS has one, it de-values what I value in the experience and I prefer not to deal with that.

Apples and oranges.

The Replica Edition has a lot of styling differences, but no one would mistake a clean/modern reproduction with an authentic which is significantly aged and looks truly vintage. I don't think there is any confusing my '97 LE or my upcoming '17 LE with a real CK2915. I don't think any of those lucky owners care one iota.

Where the difference comes into play is that the '17 LE is a modern Omega and is nothing without the bracelet. The bracelet makes the entire watch. Broad Arrow models have been around since the late 90's, the 1957 line has the faux lume and the steel bezel and it's been out for awhile, the 2998 and FOIS are out there. If you step back, there really is nothing too exciting about the '17 LE except its combination of all these features and the fabulous flat-link brushed/polished bracelet which sets is apart from the rest of the manual-wind professionals.

If the '17 LE didn't come with a bracelet, I wouldn't have bought it. It makes the watch. It's not just an accessory; it's the whole $7,000 purchase.

Well, seeing as there will already be more than 12,000 of these bracelets on these very models (one on each of the 3,557 individuals and each of the 3 watches in the 557 Trilogy sets), I doubt another probably 1,000-2,000 max on FOIS will make much of a difference.

^ Forgot to go further to add, nobody's going to recognize or appreciate watches in the real world anymore. It's just the truth, that we've all noticed. You might have better luck wearing gold Rolexes though; most people tend to be able to recognize a Rolex.

As for the internet, people aren't paying attention to the bracelet most likely. When I post photos of my Speedmasters on their 1039 bracelets, nobody really notices - despite the fact that those bracelets are beginning to fetch $1,500 alone. If it's recognition you're after, I really don't think the Speedmaster 60th / bracelet is going to bring the response you're looking for...

very true. was at a party where there were 3 Panerai and 1 AP RO prominently shown on people's wrists. My non-watch friend did not bat an eye when seeing these wrist candies yet when he saw my old 5-digit sub, he pointed at it and made an "oh my" face. He has seen me wear a handful of Omegas and never a comment. but see a Rolex, different story.

also hoping that 60th LE bracelet fits my CK2998.

I notice your 1039's all the time. As you know, when the head of the watch barely changes in 45 years it becomes all about the bracelet for at-a-glance vintage recognition.

I was being [mostly] facetious, but the bracelet is a big deal to the Speedmaster 60 and if it became commonplace it takes away that which makes it somewhat unique. It's the reproduction 1039 that has me excited about this watch, not the broad arrows, steel bezel, applied logo, and all the rest which has been out there in one form or another for the manual wind's for decades.

Same here, I don't feel as powerful without a Rolex on my wrist.

No. And if it does, please just wear it in real life and refrain from posting photos.

No, but I make as much if that counts.

It's so true. I have a few nice, shiny OMEGAs and have never, ever gotten a comment on any of them. Ironically, I've gotten no less than 12 comments praising my $150 Swatch Sistem 51 Sistem Green. Watch collecting truly is a lonely (and expensive!) hobby. But it's a lonely hobby that I personally love. Either way, public approval or not, I can't wait to get my freaking hands on one of these LEs next month!!

There is so much I find wrong with this, I don't know where to begin.

Internet acclaim? Dude, no one cares! If they hit the "like" button after you post a wrist shot, if that gets you off, more power to you.

You wear your sleeves rolled up at work AND home, looking for positive feedback? Still looking to impress the significant other...with your watch?

On top of all this, you revel in the envy of others? What gratification does this possibly bring you?

I can only hope your entire post was tongue-in-cheek.

Not for me 😀 Dial and bezel mostly. For some reason the modern dot under 70 bezels stick out like a sore thumb to me, and only look good to me in special edition colors (blue on Gemini IV, gold on Apollo XI 45th etc)

if it became commonplace it takes away that which makes it somewhat unique. It's the reproduction 1039 that has me excited about this watch

Well, the FOIS and CK2998 aren't commonplace, so even if every single owner of those watches acquired a new repro bracelet it still wouldn't amount to the total that are being sold on the reissues. Also important to note that it's not really a repro 1039, it'll be chunkier and without the stretch links... the two main features that I appreciate the most about the 1039 as I am not a bracelet person!

Plus, if the bracelet is what's important to you, why wouldn't you prefer it was available separately and just get an FOIS? Or, since you appreciate the 1039, why not look for a nice 145.022-69 with one - they still cost less than the 60th for the time being.

No, but I make as much if that counts.

It doesn't, but it seems as though you are at least in an industry where the appearance of wealth and success is important; that's what I was getting at. As I said, unless it's a Rolex, I think you might be better off spending your money on a car service (or car) to impress people - the only people you'll impress with an Omega is yourself first and foremost, and then maybe a couple nerds on the internet like you mentioned.

Bracelets definitely do not make-or-break a watch for me. In fact, chances are if I were to regularly wear a Trilogy watch it would likely be on a strap. I think the LE watches look good on the bracelets, but ever since I switched to a leather strap on my TinTin I find the only time I reach for a watch on a bracelet is if I think I will be out in the rain. That being said, I am one of those who opts for buying a watch with the bracelet instead of with a strap, but that is mainly because straps are cheaper to pick up later.

I gave up wearing long sleeved shirts years ago, and am typically sporting hairy forearms at work and at home, so whatever watch I am wearing is always visible. And outside of a few watch collector friends of mine, only three other people have said/ asked anything about a watch I was wearing over the last 2 years. And out of those, 2 owned new POs.

This is a problem of mine, no need to poke fun at me. I feel like less of a person without a Rolex, a BMW, a beach house, and a trophy wife.

Thankfully I have more than one of each, so all set for now.

To defeat self-esteem issues sometimes one needs a powerful wristwatch collection. Look what that spider bite did for Peter Parker. I was picked on a lot as a kid. Not anymore.

I honestly think we are dealing with a grade A troll here people and it may be wise for us to stop feeding it. This is two threads now where he has dragged the strand of conversation totally off on a tangent and onto a line which I can only assume leads to some gratification at watching less mischievous members scratch their heads in confusion. Some folks just get off at the attention and resulting cut and thrust that posting deliberately provocative nonsense can generate. I am sensing that we have one here.
