Am I the only one thinking that the new SM, whilst the flat link bracelet looks very nice, will look amazing on a NATO or Perlon? Just something about the case/lugs, would love to see a wristshot.

no, that is not correct, the 2915-1 I have has the Seamonster but it stands alone without the word Speedmaster around. Speedmaster is engraved on the side. The 2914-1 I have indeed is without any engravings

Thank you for the correction. Evidently (per MWO) some 2915-1 indeed have a seamonster caseback. As I do not own a 2915-1, I can not speak from personal experience. My 2914-1 Railmaster and 2913-1 Seamaster both lack a seamonster on their casebacks.

Does anyone know the lug width of the 38mm Speedy? I'm wondering if the bracelet will work on my '68 Ultraman, which I purchased sans bracelet.
19mm, per FratelloWatches hands-on this morning.

Unfortunately won't fit
Yes and no - lug width of Speedmaster Professional (which includes the Ultraman) is 20mm. Lug width of straight-lug Speedies is 19mm.

. . .HOWEVER, this 1mm difference will only result in .5mm gap on either side of the endlink, which could offer us the nice, classic endlink rattle just like the vintage links. 😉

An interesting prediction. What I'm not seeing is any consideration of speculation. Given what happened to prices for the Snoopy and pent up unsatisfied demand for the Speedy Tuesday edition, I suspect that speculators will suck up the original allocation and this may push demand into secondary sales. What I have read here and elsewhere is a number of forum members saying that they are not sure about xxx design factor, but are buying one anyway. I suggest that this is a form of speculation too - they want to initially secure one because they are not sure where the market will head, but it is safer to be in at the start and pay MSRP than take a chance that resale values will go high.
The speculation angle is very interesting if you compare Speedy Tuesday with Speedy 60th. All 2,012 reservation spots for Tuesday are gone, but securing a spot did not require financial qualification. The main factor was timing. If you were around in the reservation time window, speculating on the Tuesday was essentially costless. With the 60th, speculation requires 100% deposit. This financial hurdle weeds out the “casual” speculators. It’s not crazy to assume that the current % of speculators to “true” buyers of the 2,012 Tuesday spots could be higher than the % of speculators to true buyers of the 3,557 60th spots. Of course, the quality of the Tuesday pool will improve as the less dedicated drop their spots and are replaced by waitlist buyers.

I think the awkward trilogy text is what will distinguish these pieces in 100 years. Like branded retailer dials, i.e.: Tiffany & Co, etc.

Spend $20k so your grandkids can (possibly) reap the benefits.

Well, if an actual Speedy from 1957 had the numbered Trilogy tag today, I don't think anyone would value it. Tiffany & Co is still much cooler.

Also, this tag comes with baggage because if you're missing the other two watches, you now have an incomplete set and the value will likely take a hit.

If I do go ahead with a 60th Speedy, my hope is the value will not fall below $5k USD over the next year or two, and it will creep back up to somewhere around the MSRP and hopefully stay there.

I think too many made for this to be an option.

I think if they had made 1,000 fewer CK2998 that they would have held close to MSRP. Now, the CK2998 can be picked up by a savy collector for 20% less than msrp. Factor in tax, if paid and then its ~30% below msrp.

I would expect something similar with the 60th Speedy, and I think @BenjaminT adds to the argument with the flood of LEs that are being released this cycle.

Perhaps the original purchasers of this white elephant thought the same?

My prediction is that the Speedy will hold its value and the SM and RM will be the ones that you can find for less than MSRP. I also have a feeling the Trilogy set may dip to as low as 18k simply because no mother could love those dials

no denying, it's quite an attractive package....much different that the CK2998, this one really captures your attention.
