On the Seamaster 300, is the bezel ceramic with liquidmetal numbers like on the 300MC or is it just the standard aluminum bezel?

It's aluminum, like the original, besides, it wasn't possible to make a ceramic bezel that thin

The original was a Bakelite like plastic/resin which didn’t last well! Aluminium is much tougher.

I just saw a 1957 Trilogy set sitting in an OB window today. Didn’t expect that!

Heard of one at an AD a few months ago, contacted him and inquired on price--open to a good price but he wanted full MSRP...kind of chuckled, and wished him good day. I'm sure he found someone to buy it but IMO I'd rather have 3 individual 3557's than the price premium to have a wooden box and "Trilogy xxx" plastered on the dial...

I really didn't think I would be in the market for a new Speedmaster anytime in the near future but I stumbled into an Omega shop in Venice where they had the just released '57 in gold and I was smitten.

Last year I found a minty '57 in two tone and had to have it. They are beautiful pices.

I have a set, unused, with plastic still on. For a long time I couldn't decide whether to keep it but have decided now to pass it on to make room for other "investments" 😀 However not sure people are actually that interested in this box (which I don't understand since they are really cool together) - maybe if I keep it in the basement for 20 years it will gain some wow-interest 😀

What's the cheapest folks have seen the Railmaster go for?

Lowest pre-owned (but like new) forum prices I've seen:
Railmaster: GBP 3075 (sold after a week)
Seamaster: GBP 4250 (still for sale after a month)
Speedmaster: GBP 4750 (still for sale after 3 days)

These things don't seem to hold their value very well.

I thought the speedy would have held much better.

I thought the speedy would have held much better.

I think Omega issued too many of them to be considered collectible. Some ADs still have the Railmaster and Seamaster available. The Speedmaster sold out eventually, but I guess a number of buyers expected a new Snoopy effect, it didn't happen, and then some were put up for sale again, so they were easily obtainable, even lowering the desirability.

The trick with the Silver Snoopy, and in lesser extend the Speedy Tuesday models, is they were sold out during pre-order in no time, and hardly available afterwards, driving up the hype and the price.

I see the ST#1 slowly becoming available on several forums, lowering the scarcity and thus the price. The price is slowly falling towards RRP again, and speculators want to get rid of it, others just flip it after a year for something new.

So do I, the speedmaster 60th anniversary is truly a fantastic watch. But isn't it a bit early to state that these watches don't hold value? We'll know in 5 to 10 years if these watches become grails for watch collectors. Until then, what you hear is just noise.

Yup, I have the 60th anniversary speedmaster. Think I will hold for a while see how it the market shakes out. May have been too many produced, but I think resale may remain somewhat close to original purchase price.

This is the cheapest one I've seen so far - (EDIT: this one has no box or papers either)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/163253872503

there was one that went for less a couple months ago, but it had no box/papers.

Once these regularly hit 4k US or below I'm jumping right in

I definitely think they made too many of these. Should have made at most 1957 of them before the sets.

In terms of value in the future, we'll have to wait and see. I think it's really early to tell, but as some of the Speedmasters "settle in collections" they might go up a bit. However if Omega releases them again then that probably won't help. I'm very happy with my Speedmaster and didn't but it because I was speculating but rather because I wanted to wear it and because they came so close to replicating the original.

Yeah, we're in the same boat. Even at $4500 US I'd be tempted, but $4k US or less for sure. I could even myself grabbing the Seamaster as well.
