Omega 176.007 Serial Number

Recently sold a watch & the buyer is querying the serial stamped on the Rotor, which is R15***.
Is the serial not stamped on the movement itself?
Shouldn't the serial be an 8 digit number?
Could it be a service Rotor?

IIRC it should be a replacement(service) rotor and yes, cal 1040 has the serial number stamped on the rotor,
