Omega 176.007 evaluation

Hi guys

I have my eye on a gold plated Omega 176.007. The crystal is fairly beaten up and it has some scratches and knocks to the case commensurate with its age. I was just wondering are these collectible and roughly what do they fetch in reasonable condition? The local vintage watch dealer is looking for £1,500. Do you think this is reasonable or am I being fleeced?

Any help offered is greatly appreciated.

Put it this way - I know some people have to make a living, and you cant blame anyone for that in these troubling times, but I have one in a roughly similar condition that I’d be willing to sell to you for just over half that - £840. i havent worn it in about 10 years, as have too many other watches. Its even generated some beautiful patina on the gold during that time (which would polish off easily, but I kinda like it)

please PM me if interested, cheers paul

Thanks for the reply, I had a suspicion he was asking a bit too much. Yours looks in pretty good condition but I kind of like the all gold look with the plated bracelet. I will consider your offer and get back to you if I am interested.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply and offering your watch.

I love these, and really want a gold/brown 176.005. But for £1500 I would want a watch that I enjoyed wearing. This one needs a new crystal, maybe a new crown, and a re-plating before I'd be ready to wear it. The bracelet is a cheap aftermarket thing that doesn't match the gold tone of the case. You don't discuss condition, but you should be ready to drop £300-400 on a chronograph service as well if you buy this. @Sherbie's is much nicer (though presumably also needs a service!)

Well, mine certainly has character - its been a daily beater for sure - and like a lot of these that have been worn hard, the gold plating has worn through on some of the high points (especially near the lugs)

@joeshoup - you are correct - mine also hasnt been serviced since I bought it in 2013. But then I havent worn it more than 30 days in that time.

I also like these .007s very much, they wear fantastic on my 7 1/2 inch wrist, unlike its sister, 176.005 - this is a real brute, but thi one I picked up some time ago is in much better condition

A couple of things to factor in for the OP;

1. Gold plating is in poor condition and worn through in the high spots and high wear surfaces. That will impact the value significantly.
2. Bracelet is not original.
3. Will likely need a service, which can run in the hundreds of $

Factor all these in and IMO not worth the asking price.

When the case on these gold-plated watches is ruined like that, the value plummets. Personally, I'd have no interest in a watch in that condition and the bracelet looks like aftermarket garbage. Not worth a fraction of the asking price IMO.
