Hi folks,

I decided I needed something nicer than a tea towel on the kitchen counter to change watch straps on, so I made up this strap changing pad.

It’s made of rich oil-tanned saddlebag leather that patina’s like no one’s business, and I’ve incorporated a natural vegetable-tanned insert for a strap changing tool & spring bars to rest without rolling away. It’s lined with suede so it stays absolutely in place regardless of how much you are fussing and swearing at the spring bar you’ve launched into space. Saddle-stitching by hand pulls the look together nicely. It measures about 11 3/4” x 9.5”.

I figured maybe one of you would want one of these as well. So, with my sincere thanks for all the fun and friendship on the forum this year, I am happy to give this to the first member to claim it in a post below. All I ask is that you take a moment to pause and maybe make a gift to charity, shovel a neighbours side walk (of snow or sand, being inclusive of both hemispheres), or reach out to an old friend to say hello.

The pad ships free from Vancouver by Canada Post, untracked and not insured. Tool and watch not included. If you’d like, I can ship by courier at cost.

Happy holidays 👍

Generous to a fault, not needed in this house but I respect your seasonal good karma!

I would say yes I want it, but then I would have to do something nice for someone else and that’s a deal breaker.
Nice of you to offer though

Not going to claim it but, want to say what a nice gesture this is on your part, this is what makes OF what it is, a family of really great people.

Very nice gesture, Dave. I'm certainly jealous of all you leather craftsmen who can whip this stuff up.

Thank you Ryan. There’s a great video from Corter Leather showing how to make a wallet with just a fork and a utility knife. So the barrier to entry isn’t high. But, the learning curve via YouTube isn’t quick. The biggest challenge is working off my kitchen counter, projects need to be taken out and put away with disappointing regularity, leather stored in a roll under the couch, glue and dye stored in the basement storage area, gluing done outdoors, or in the guest bathroom wearing a respirator. AND, it’s all worth it for the creative outlet 👍

I was lucky to score a DaveK cap earlier this year. Excellent quality (leather goods)!

That hat cost you a cup of coffee, a vintage hammer (later donated to airport security) and whiplash from my 37 minute visit 😁

And an edge creaser! But it was worth it.

Yes, my appreciation for the airport security did not extend to surrendering the edge creaser.

I’ve been scrolling through online offers for leather pads for my desk for exactly this reason. If I may I’d love to give it a new home (and would also have a worthy charity in mind, there’s a homeless shelter in my area which we do some work with; happy to provide some details via pm @DaveK ).

If someone else was quicker in the meantime: congratulations and either way, I’d like to +1 what Norman said. Absolute class act and I love for forum for it!

Very cool initiative, and what's more a very nice item offered.

Hell, it actually gave me ideas, and I will have to be on the lookout for one of these, as I'll be happy to actually buy one!

If I didn't have two left hands and ten thumbs, I would definitely give leather work a try. But now that I've passed the half century mark a while ago, I know my limitations all too well...

Looking forward to including these in next year’s Mid-Atlantic GTG swag bag. You should start production now, Dave.
