This was mine, now long sold. A timepiece full of exquisite little details. Early incarnations such as this are more attractive to my eye, but that is just personal opinion...

This had a Venus cal. 210 by the way.

So, in what order would you rank Nivada, Wittnauer, Croton and other CASD watches based on quality, value and desirability. Which brand retains value most.

Please help.

I believe CASD are all the same (if not I'm sure someone will correct me). The Croton CASD only exists because of Bulova tried, and succeed, blocking the imports of Nivada Grenchens to America, so they teamed up with Croton who assembled them there and sold them under their name.

What is the link with these Nivada and the Wittnauer 7004 ? They look pretty similar to me except the movement.
Please excuse me if the subject has been already discussed.

I’m going to ask a question here that perhaps should have its own thread, but I think you CASD guys are the kind of guys that might have some answers.

So I have a Valjoux 72 Le Jour chrono that’s missing a bezel and chrono hand. I thought I had a solution but it didn’t work out. So I’m looking for a bezel and second hand. The hand is going to be very hard so I’ll have to just find something suitable, but I think the bezel might be common across various models. I think it might even be the same as the one on my Croton, but I can’t get it off to check the dimensions. So can I ask if anyone knows for sure what the correct bezel is ?

Here’s my Le Jour and Croton. Both have the same mid-case diameter of 38.10mm.

And here’s the detail of the Le Jour bezel lip. The OD is 34.69mm.

Any ideas of a way to get the right bezel. And I’m sure the hand will be impossible, but does anyone know of this type here (seems to be exactly the same version Le Jour as mine).

Vintage advertisement from the 60s.

And here the re-enactment of it.

Any tip on where I can learn more about these beautiful watches before purchasing the book? Kind of like speedmaster101 for the speedy? 😀

Before the book (which is great!) there was information spread all over the internet.
One of the early articles I like:

Nice! Thanks a lot 😀 I totally have a crush on these watches right now, especially the ones with the thin "Nivada Grenchen" logo and arrow hands. I guess these are the early ones with V92-movements 😀 Would make a nice pair with my speedy:

You guys seem to know quite a bit on these watches. 😀 I have my eyes on one, but was sure the insert was not original to the watch. But now I have a fellow watch friend who think maybe it is! Can you shed some light on it? Is this a correct insert on the watch?

A recent acquisition, Valjoux 92 in this one, which, along with the absence of "Croton," makes it 2nd generation, I think. Just starting to go a bit tropical (original owner was in Hawaii). These are the epitome of the chunky tool watch, imho.

Placeholder strap until the bespoke one, Thoroughbred leather NATO from Foxtrotsupply Co., arrives in the post!
