Hello,

Newish member from Finland here introducing himself. I have been lurking on this great forum quite actively for a number of years. I could be called a fairly active collector, since I collect antique maps, books, Finnish knives - and watches.

Omegas have traditionally been a big thing and a highly respected watch brand in Finland. Due to this me and my sisters bought an Omega for my fathers 50th birthday in the late 80’s. Mechanical watches were not a la mode at that time, so we spent for us at the time a fair amount of money on a gold-plated Omega de Ville quartz watch, which I have inherited, maintained and will keep.

My own collection started with a birth-year (1965) gold-plated Seamaster 600 about 20 years ago. Since then I have accumulated a fair size watch collection, maybe focusing a bit too much on quantity. After the first Omega there was a short Seiko period. Since then I have bought a number of Girard-Perregaux, Universal Geneve, Aquastar watches and a couple of Zeniths and Tissots.

My late father owned an old Certina DS. That is probably the main reason I became interested in vintage Certinas. I would say that today I am mostly interested in Omegas and Certinas.

This forum has been and is a great source of information on vintage watches and also great entertainment. Thank you for maintaining but also developing it constinously!

Attached are most of my vintage Omegas, a couple of Certinas and a Tissot Antimagnetique

Greetings from a snow-stormy Helsinki,

Welcome aboard @Anp200411 ! We're glad to have you here. Nice Tissot bottom right, is it double-signed? Looking forward to a better picture! 😁

Greetings, that’s a nice story about inheriting your father’s gold-plated Quartz De Ville which you had gifted him. It resonates with me as I have had the same experience. Nice Speedy Mark II by the way!

Welcome officially, nice heathy collection you have there. You have obviously found your style of watch and preference of brands but this the beauty of the hobby and this site as you often come across something new and your interest gets pricked. Some say rabbit holes I say knowledge pits 😀

Thanks,for the nice welcomes.

I’ll try to post some pictures in different threads later. Yes @Vitezi, Tissot is double signed (if having Fab Suisse on the dial means that - picture attached).

Welcome @Anp200411! Is the second from the left in the top row a jumbo (36mm or larger)? Any chance of a close up photo?

Well, considering that the level of football here is quite average (we’ve only made it to the European championships once, never to the World Cup) I think I have to be somewhat humble. Football (soccer to some) is the greatest sport, though!

Most of what I’ve learned about vintage watches I’ve learned here on the forum. Luckily the learning costs in the early period of collecting - way before finding this forum - were reasonable!

Yes, this is a jumbo with an interesting background. I was looking throug a watch box in a thrift store over 10 years ago. Amongst all the plastic quartz watches was a beat-up old Omega. I did not think it was anything special at the time, but I bought it for something like 30-50 euros. The watch was in my drawer for several years until I took it to my watch maker. He thought it would be worth restoring, especially because of the size.

I regret that I did not take any photos of its original condition. The dial was in a very sorry state, and I think it had mismatching hands and a wrong crown. All in all, it had had a rough life.

I know that refinished watches are looked down a bit, but I really like this watch. It is most likely original Finnish-sold Omega 2505 from 1950. My watch maker has Omega parts account, so the hands, crown etc. are all original Omega parts. The dial was refinished by some one to my mind quite professional in the UK (I don’t know the persons’s name/company). The restoration was not cheap, but I am very happy. My watch maker was even willing to buy the watch. What do you think of the restoration (sorry about my camera skills…)
