Comparable to something I saw the other day at a thread related to the Mark XI.

1. DECIDE WHETHER YOU WANT TO BUY A MARK 11 TO WEAR ON A DAILY BASIS OR AS A COLLECTOR’S ITEM.
In the former case stop reading here, buy the watch you like and pay the price you deem it worth. And then simply enjoy.
In the latter case keep on reading as things become a little bit more complicated.

Vintage watches to avoid:

Anything with a base metal bezel that is then plated, be it chrome, gold, whatever.

Gold capped over stainless can be OK, virtually everything else - not so much.

Brassing looks crummy and can't generally be fixed acceptably.

That's not always true. I had the gold plating on this redone and I think it wears pretty well. Inside is the highly-regarded Venus 188 movement.
