New to this - my search for a dog leg connie

Hello all,

I’d like to start by thanking the OF community for creating this space to teach and learn more about the hobby. Since making my account around a couple of weeks ago I have spent time learning and engaging and feel I have learnt a lot in a very short space of time. I have engaged with members both here, as well as on respective watch collecting Instagram accounts (who also have accounts on here).

As most of you active on here will know I have and am looking for a ref 167.005 or 14900 dog leg pie pan constellation (I have an active WTB). In my search I have consulted various people on here, as well as Instagram (some who are active in forums concerning the watches I have asked for advice on where to buy one and in some cases I have sent photos of watches I’ve found for them to look at).

I’ve realised that this is unfair on those individuals to answer one to one when these questions would be better addressed to the wider community, so I may still get an answer as well as benefitting those who may also be looking for watches now or at a later date.

So the purpose of this thread is two-fold; for me to document my search, and post things I come across, but also to apologise to those whose time I might have wasted.

To start off the responses, I don’t have a watch immediately that I’m looking at, but what I would like to ask is where do you guys find all these things?! I’ve spent a good amount of time combing eBay, both UK and USA as well as a bit of France and Germany, Chrono24, here, and Reddit looking for examples, but I just don’t see nearly as many as some I’ve spoken to see. Any tips for widening the net?

Thanks in advance.

As always, the best place to find a good example at a fair price is right here on the private watch sales forum on OF. You have to be patient and be ready to buy quickly when a good one comes up. In the meantime, continue to hone your knowledge about what constitutes a good example.

Lovely, but I’m looking for a pie pan!

Edit - where is that? I can’t see it in watch sales or private watch sales.

Just be patient. You raced to 200 posts and made your WTB, but finding a good watch doesn't always happen overnight unless you're willing to throw a lot of money into the mix. If you're really so desperate, then pony up a few grand and buy one. Otherwise, you don't need to continually repeat your desire to the forum. Even though these are not rare watches, all things considered, you would do well to settle down a bit, and give yourself at least a few months.

1. Vintage watch in good condition.
2. Vintage watch at a good price.
3. Vintage available now.

Very rare to be able to tick all three boxes above. Usually you need to pick two.

I pick 1 and 2, I’m happy to slow down!

I’ve got a lovely watch coming already courtesy of @seekingseaquest (Seamaster).

Maybe I’m misunderstanding this post. Since when is a 167.005 not a pie pan?

Yup - thank you!

However I’ll take a look at any of this ref that comes my way, regardless of crosshair or not.

Forgive me if I’ve misunderstood, but 167.005 can be dome dial and also pie pan, and I’m looking specifically for a pie pan. Thanks!

I’d say slightly less common but less desirable

Yup, the price difference is significant. Dome (or flat) dials I’d say fetch ~30-50% less than their twelve-sided siblings. They can still be found for under 1k€/$ on occasion, especially when they have a date. Pie pans for that money… well. Those days are long gone.

Don’t do what I did.

Forget the earlier Connies and head straight for the C-case chronometers

Those are lovely too! But I’m still after an earlier one for now 😉

I've also been looking for a similar watch for few months now. All I can say is, be patient and try not to be distracted by all the other nice things that come through here 😁
