Just went to Vegas for our 20th anniversary and had made up my mind to pick up a memento timepiece for it on the trip. My shortlist was Moonwatch #1 then Milgauss, Air King and Explorer II. We started at the several Rolex stores and they were very picked over as well as a generally cold shoulder as far as sales experience. Maybe not having much to sell does that to you. I don't know.

I had saved the OB in the Bellagio for last however as the Moonwatch was the one I had wanted for the longest. We were treated to a warm reception but there were no Moonwatches on display that I saw. I inquired and had missed a Hesalite on strap but also received a nice smile that went along with the fact they had a sapphire sandwich in the back and they would be happy to get it for me. While that was being done I spotted a nice white-dialed Speedy Racer on strap.

Now I found myself sorting through Hesalite vs sapphire etc and then the white-dialed Racing butting into the process as well LOL. Ended up going Sapphire sandwich and got the Racer as well to have some variety. Super thrilled with these 2 watches.

Wow! You don't mess around. A white dial Speedmaster is a great part of a collection and on top that you got the Moonwatch too! That is an awesome set.

You did better with the pair of omegas IMO>
I had the same treatment at a rolex dealer as well. i walked in wearing shorts and a plain button down shirt, and the "help" looked me up and down once and ignored me... i didnt stick around long.
Im the same vein, I am an acquaintance of Jimmy Buffett and we talked about this happening and he also said the same thing.
If you know Jimmy, he wears simple clothes. looks homeless at times. old cut-off jean shorts and a tattered t-shirts are his go-to just about everywhere...
an extremely wealthy man got the same treatment as I did at a rolex dealer. he also walked out without anyone helping him.
their loss i guess.

Congratulations!

I have looked at those newer Sapphire Moon watches a few times and the newer step dials, applied OMEGA logo etc, all give the watch much more depth than the older ones. And the newer bracelet feels more refined with the taper. Overall I love the new tweaks.

Great pair of watches you have, and welcome to the forums.

Joel is a great ambassador to the brand and I LOVED the fact he respected the amount of thought I had put into things.

Thank you all for the welcome!

Either one would have been a great day. Congrats on doubling down in Vegas! I have visited the OB in Chicago several times and they have always been super welcoming of me and anyone else who was in the store.

I went to my Boutqiue today with the intention of a Moonwatch but like you the Racing has always caught my attention and due to a better deal, I decided to go with that one! While I wait for my piece to arrive, can you let me know if you see the same behavior when you move your minutes hand anticlockwise as shown in this video (starts around 18:45):
The small seconds hand in the dedicated seconds subdial jumps backwards (reviewer termed it as "recoil"). The reviewer said he tested other Caliber 9900 models in the boutique and they all exhibit the same behavior but it doesn't seem normal to me.

Just tried it out and yes it does the same thing. Looks like gear backlash to me. I know this may sound weird but I try to only go clockwise when adjusting anything like that with a gear train. Just a weird “ism” I guess but I had not noticed the seconds behavior until you pointed it out due to that. Doesn’t seem to have any effect on function but I would make sure to adjust clockwise to ensure when setting the time that the slack is out of the gear train.

Thank you for your response! I asked my guy at my boutique to try it to see if the same thing happened but it didn't (he sent me video). I'll be seeing him again today so I will edit accordingly if I do notice it happening on the showroom model.

Do you leave the chrono running to allow for use of the 3 o'clock subdial as a second time zone? I reckon when traveling to other States within the U.S. that I might use it as such or even use it as a second time zone while at home!

Congrats, both great watches! I must say the OB at the Bellagio is fantastic too. Not sure if they are the same crew I saw ~5 years ago, but I inquired about an AT and they were more than accommodating even though I told them I was just looking around. They gave me an Omega book with a bag even, and tied it all up. Super nice folks, and if the stars ever align (for a work trip), I'd be back.
