Am I being obnoxious or obtuse if I say that Omega (Longines, et al ) seem to be particularly close-minded when it comes to catalogs of all available watches, archives, and accessories? They could even sell catalogs of all their goodies and I would buy the catalog (within reason)! Why not have a sales web site with inventory, suggested price etc.? If we don't buy from them, then they would always make a bit a cash on the catalog sales. This would make our obsessio...er... HOBBY...yeah, that's it, HOBBY much more rich and full! Please enlighten this soul? (ME...it's always about ME) ;-)

I got a pair from http://www.ebay.com/usr/magicstrap?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 to test fit and quality. Both fit perfectly on the Omega OEM clasp; I'd say constructed with better than decent quality materials, relatively inexpensive, but IMO well-executed straps.

Not obnoxious, but slightly close-minded in that all ADs and Boutiques are in business for business. Accessories (for ALL retail operations) have the biggest profit margins for hard goods, so it's the shop's job push the sale as best as possible. If they allow access to the full catalog then they won't have an opportunity to work their sales tactics to push a purchase on you, or upsell you on other options you might not have even thought of purchasing before visiting. While having said catalog(es) easily accessible is best for the consumer side it's a detriment to the retail side.

I know all the brands do tons of market research and empirical analysis on such sales practices to determine their methods of sale, and depending on the manufacturer their methods differ. Look at Panerai - they have their entire modern strap and accessory catalog on line, as do other brands such as Nomos and C.Ward. Each brand varies, but since Omega has really been pushing their "Boutique" selling experience it just makes sense for them to only allow full access via visiting said boutiques.

Side note...does anyone prefer buckles to deployant clasps?

Yes, because buckles are usually thinner than deployants.
