New Speedmaster 50th Anniversary of Moon Landing Rumors

I pulled the trigger yesterday and made the interest free loan to Omega (aka, put down the deposit). If the 50th anniversary edition doesn't appeal to me, I can always tell my wife the refund is only in store credit ....

It’s been a while since people have started to put down their release and they are still taking them. I guess this confirms that this “LE” will be high in production and allow everyone to obtain one if they want. I’m glad they are letting everyone celebrate this moment.

Rumors generally grow deformed as they travel... but I understand the anticipation

I don’t believe it will be just one person making all the movements, just that each one will be assembled by one individual rather than in an assembly line fashion. I suspect there will be a number of people assembling these watches.

That’s exactly what we reported from the ST event in January. Each 321 watch will be assembled by the same person from the movement assembly to the strap. Never said it will be only one person assembling them all. Obviously, not all people who are now working in assembly at Omega will suddenly be working on 321s... so the limited number of watchmakers working on 321s will limit the production capacity (bandwidth, for the techies) and as consequence the delivery speed.

Many things in this thread lol

You know a “special edition” is coming thinking it might be omega’s first crack at special editions

On the event I could see them doing it at some space center during the week of Basel to try and get attention.

Finally the deposit I would love to see that in writing.

Sorry if this may sound a bit harsh, but...

I feel Omega really drunk Rolex's kool aid.

Evidence:
a) 5K deposit for a yet-to-be-announced model.
b) Only selling to people with 'a relationship' with an AD.
c) Overpricing their watches.
d) Refusing to sell parts to independent watch makers.

What comes next? Year long wait lists for having the 'privilege' of buying a watch?

It is pretty sad. What I like in Omega is the non-bs approach for selling watches to us, history and the nice community of Omega aficionados.

This is false, but despite that it’s been made clear by Omega themselves that they want to challenge Rolex, so I don’t think it required any drinks...

It just seems bizarre to have a down payment with so little information. FOMO in full effect! I'll be rooting for you guys that are braver than I, hope the watch is spectacular!

Indeed! I’ve never seen a watch that I’ve never seen that I wanted to have.

But let’s face it, we’re all nuts for being obsessed about expensive mechanical watches in the first place.

So, carry on....

When I was at my local AD this weekend, the owner said he was flying out to Zurich to see if he can get at least one.. There are a couple hundred dealers in the US so this would be his edge in getting his hands on one. He said a customer already put down a $10k deposit..
My first thought was how much is this guy spending in terms of time and money to go over there for a watch that may or may not be given to him. Crazy. He has been an omega dealer for 30+ yrs.

I heard the same. There will be an even in Zurich on or around March 19th, one of my contact at an OB told me so he/we will know more after that.

i inquired from omega AD in our area and the manager said they have no official notice from Omega SA that they can accept
deposit nor they are guaranteed an allocation of a few 321s. 😡🙁

So he took a 10k deposit for a watch he might not be able to deliver ? 📖

I look at it this way. I'm losing about $50-$100 in interest for the opportunity to purchase a watch that I might not otherwise be able to purchase without having to pay a significantly higher premium or wait for a significantly longer period. If the watch turns out to be a "home run" then I'll complete the transaction; if not, I'll get my refund or purchase a GMT!

Yes it sounded ridiculous but he was pretty sure the watch exists. Also mentioned that the true release wasn't going to be for another year...

It's probably worth its weight in Gold 😁

What I've heard is approx 7k SS versions, and 1k Gold versions. I didn't see that mentioned in this thread. Also he mentioned an updated movement, but is that really the 321?

In this case I might even consider the gold one. 😉
