I thought the OPs post was quite measured and just reflected disappointment, hardly a rant.

If I get into rant mode, my input is usually "Those 🤬 useless 🤬 at Omega just 🤬 up my 🤬 watch and the 🤬 service tech said it's not a problem, so they can all go 🤪.

🤬 !.

+1. Many years ago, and before I knew better, I sent my 1976 Speedmaster that my parents gifted me for my high school graduation to Omega for service. Without asking me, they replaced the tritium dial and handset (and damaged them during removal) and polished the case and bracelet. When I realized the import of what they had done, now THAT was a rant.

Wow, I would've been inconsolable with rage if that happened to me.

I was, but it did me no good. I sold the watch and have owned a number of Speedmasters since then, but am currently down to just one. A very nice example of a 1969 145.022 Straight Writing WITH the tritium dial and handset and the original bezel. Omega service will never get their hands on this one. 😀

My prediction, dealer will fully wind the watch and it will run to spec hour wise. Although OP says he wound it until the crown would no longer turn, did he really? Many newbies to manual winders stop short for fear of breaking it. He may have felt resistance building and thought the crown was hitting its stop point when it really wasn't. Let's see what the verdict is.
I have the 2022 Speedmaster 57. With daily winding it’s almost 40 turns for full wind, if winding every other day it’s many more. The amount of resistance is pretty even all the way through the wind from beginning to stop point. BTW, most accurate watch I own. For the past 8 weeks I’m at +2-2.5 seconds fast total (not per day). Gains about 3/4 spd on wrist them loses it crown up at night. I have not once had to hack seconds in 2 months. Just amazing.

Bought a brand new Speedmaster’57 a week ago. Went to put it on today after being fully wounded yesterday and boom - dead, had stopped working at 5:40 am and I know it’s am because the date had turned to todays date.
Shocked and disappointed, took it back to AD who called the sales rep etc, etc. Lost faith in it.

I don't know if Omega still manufactures reliable watches anymore, I just see or hear very bad news, like watch stops working chrono functions issues, models from 2022 still not available. I think I will pull the trigger for the Zenith Chronomaster 10th of a second the white dialed version, at least I NEVER EVER heard any bad news regarding the movement EL PRIMERO.

I don’t agree with this at all. I’ve purchased two new Omegas in the past five years and both have been excellent. My current daily wearer is a Seamaster 300 Heritage and it’s one the best watches that I have ever owned. The build quality is outstanding, great flat link bracelet with micro-adjustment, unique sandwich dial, amazing lume and the METAS certified Master Chronometer caliber 8900 is incredibly accurate. No complaints.

That's because the only people you hear from are the people who have big issues. The vast majority of people with normal functioning watches aren't coming online to tell everyone how normally their watch functions. And out of those that do have an issue, how many just get it addressed through Omega warranty and never go online to complain/rant?

Excellent. The 57 speedmaster is growing on me and you're like the umpteenth person I've seen report on the accuracy.

@Nerazzurro my 8400 SMH (2017) is about 10/7ths second fast right now (1.42 sec) after a month of not messing with it. It gains a small amount of time during the day and loses it dial up at night. There are a ton of people who have commented on the co-axial movement accuracy, but as @Aroxx said... it is the people with problems you most often hear from on the internet.

FWIW my experience with the 8800, 8900, and 9906 movements has made me a true believer in Omega. Worth every dollar spent, the watches are a joy to own. Nothing but good news here!

+1 - A year in and my Speedy ‘57 is a complete joy and the most accurate watch I’ve ever owned, including compared to my quartz watches. It’s 50% build and design quality and 50% totally luck due to wear habits, but it’s +1.0 on the wrist and -1.0 at night on the dresser. If I wear it everyday, it’s dead even at the end of the week.

Same for me with the 57. Have owned it for 2.5 months, it is currently +2 seconds. Have not hacked it once. Gains 3/4 second give or take on the wrist every day and loses it crown up at night. My other watches are getting ignored!

Travel has been great with the hour jump and having the option of using the combined hour/minute Chrono subdial as a second time zone since it reads like a clock. This watch has exceeded my expectations in all areas, could not be more pleased with it.

Just a quick update on my previous post…Thanks to all those who replied and provided feedback. No rant intended just to be clear. There is something wrong with the watch so the dealership is replacing it with a brand new SM57 (… in the next two weeks or so but at this point whatever….). Hope all goes well this time.

Glad to hear the AD is standing up for the customer here. I’ve been in the exact same boat and it would not be at all unreasonable for the AD to just say “we’ll send it to Omega and it’ll be fixed up in a few weeks or months.” They’re within their rights to do that, but then you never really “trust” the watch. An AD trying to do something a little above and beyond is just good customer service. Hoping the replacement watch is spot on 👍

Maybe ask a few watchmakers what they think of the El Primero movement. It's very expensive to service, and the high beatrate encourages the premature wear of critical components. There's a reason Rolex improved it by reducing the part count and vph. That said, they're not bad watches — Just be aware of the hidden cost relative to other pieces before you choose to buy.

I’ve owned Zenith El Primero watches twice, both times they spent more time in Switzerland than on my wrist. This is a prima donna: she looks good but too capricious.
