Bought a brand new Speedmaster’57 a week ago. Went to put it on today after being fully wounded yesterday and boom - dead, had stopped working at 5:40 am and I know it’s am because the date had turned to todays date.
Shocked and disappointed, took it back to AD who called the sales rep etc, etc. Lost faith in it.

Seamasters are self winding, just saying.

Good to know however the OP has a Speedmaster 57 and it is manual winding

Okay. I'll bite. How did you know it was "fully-wound" or not?
How can you not? The stem stopped turning after becoming more and more resistant. Unless you know something that I don’t.

While it’s definitely not something anyone would be happy with, this is the first time we’ve ever seen a Speedmaster 57 have a problem like this even with nearly 80,000 members and a huge number of owners, same for the chronoscope which shares the movement. You got very unlucky I’m afraid.

Yup, that was the point, Seamasters don`t have these kind of problems. 😉

Its literally the same movement found in the Seamaster with the auto winding system removed

Easy dude. Your original post is seeming more and more like a rant than an actual desire to communicate and discuss your problem.

New watch, picked up a week ago, I'd be a little frustrated too. My only advice is to give the AD a chance to make it right. Might just restore your faith a bit, albeit at the cost of time and some frustration. Best of luck, hope it works out quickly.

Yes, when the auto winding system is removed you have to wind it or it stops. Seamasters don`t have their auto winding systems removed so you don`t have to wind them, hence they don`t stop. Speedmasters have to be hand wound, Seamasters don`t because they have automatic winding.

Agreed and thank you. The watch is already with the AD and “will get to the bottom of this”.

I’d say if the OP just bought a new Speedy ‘57 and it more or less died in a week and is back to the AD, they’re entitled to rant and the rest of us should buy them the beverage of their choice.

Sorry to hear it OP, hopefully they’ll get you sorted quickly but it stinks nonetheless. I will say most people on here (myself very much included) have found the new ‘57s to be a pretty bullet proof, dead accurate, and with great power reserves. Hoping they fix you up or swap you out.

I disagree. This is not the time to rant.

My prediction, dealer will fully wind the watch and it will run to spec hour wise. Although OP says he wound it until the crown would no longer turn, did he really? Many newbies to manual winders stop short for fear of breaking it. He may have felt resistance building and thought the crown was hitting its stop point when it really wasn't. Let's see what the verdict is.

Sorry to hear! As with anything mechanical, these things do occasionally happen. Given how new it is, I'd say you should just be able to get a different separate watch rather than have them repair that watch, that is what I'd be pushing for in your shoes anyway.

Good luck no doubt it'll be sorted very quickly. I've once handled a $500k+ patek grand complication in the AD (just wearing it, definitely cannot afford this) with a screw loose rattling around the display caseback, there's always human or environmental error that happens now and then! Don't let it get you too down!

If there is a problem with the watch that was not caused by the OP (and I'm not suggesting, OP, that you did anything wrong), my expectation is that Swatch/Omega will honor the warranty and make it right. They are generally very good about standing behind their products and taking good care of their customers. If they didn't, it would be considerably more difficutl to sell watches at retail prices starting at over $5k.

The OP's post is hardly a rant. If the watch isn't working as it should, and especially given that it's new, he has every right to be disappointed. He's just sharing his experiience so far. If it's a rant you want, there are far better examples on OF than this one.
