New Planet Ocean - too bling?

Aye, yours is lovely though - rose gold?
Hi guys,

So I’ve just been into a local OB to try on a few bits that I’ve got my eye on and I thought I’d ask everyones’ opinion… is the current PO a bit too flash / bling?

I have a 1831 Speedy and am looking for a dive watch to add to the collection. The new watch would be something I wear every day, jeans and casual shirts, on the beach etc. with the Speedy probably becoming more of an ‘occasion’ watch (nice dinners etc).

Was pretty set on a 39.5mm blue PO paired with the rubber / cordura strap. Bit different in colour and design to the Speedy is what I’m looking for. However, trying it on I couldn’t help but think the numerals and indices especially were just very shiny - a bit too flash. Can any PO owners comment on whether that’s always the case, or just because I was trying on a brand new watch?

I found myself becoming drawn to the new 300MC, even though I prefer the overall form of the PO. Stick it on a NATO and it’ll probably be pretty timeless sports watch. I just wish the 300MC had a date function!

It’s a watch that I’ll never intend to sell, as the purchase is going to be timed with my wedding so will have sentimental value. If I’m dropping 5-6k on a watch I’ve saved hard for, I don’t want to think it’s aged badly in 5 / 10 / 30 years time and regret it. The PO 2500 has aged excellently, though I think it’s a bit more understated in its design, which is good in my eyes.

Anyone who’s owns the 88/8900 PO able to offer any insight?

Proper first world problems! Thanks for the help.

Edit: sorry for the bad photos by the way! Really not doing any of the watches justice.
Not enough bling!

Well, that answers that question…

I got married this weekend and the now wife totally surprised me with a blue 39.5 PO as a wedding gift. I was absolutely astounded as she had no idea I was looking / trying on POs and, I thought, was dead set against me getting another ‘proper’ watch - ‘you’ve already got a nice one, it’s ridiculous to have another’. Outrageously happy (obviously), I think the perfect size for me and does look damn smart; it’ll now become my everyday piece as works with pretty much everything I wear. I need to get another link added and I’m going to move the Speedy onto an Omega brown leather strap and will now wear that for slightly more formal / smarter occasions.

Now looking forward to the honeymoon and taking the PO diving (diving was always my excuse for wanting a new watch - time to justify it!). I have to say, it’s also brilliant to have a genuine emotional attachment to a watch and it’ll be something I cherish for the rest of my life.

Not a bad weekend all round, here are some hungover photos of me admiring my shiny new present!

Thanks guys! Off on honeymoon tomorrow morning and charging the GoPro up to get those gratuitous ‘dive watch doing dive things’ photos. I’ll make sure I upload some.

OP, I think part of the problem is that in every photo you are wearing 2 or 3 watches. 😀

You’re almost certainly right, I’ve also found not being in the artificial light of the AD means I’m not noticing the ceramic bezel or indices nearly as much.

On another note, anyone got any recommendations for where to buy 19mm NATO straps…? I want to try one out before deciding on whether to go for the Omega one.

Congrats OP!

cheapestNatostraps.com has 19mm Natos, if you don’t mind waiting (long delivery time).

@90_Degrees Go for the Omega nato. Treat yourself to it since you got the watch as a gift. The Omega natos are very comfortable and very well made. I think they look better than others I have seen too.

Bling setting is just right @ 87.89 %.
You wouldn’t want to go higher or lower.

Omega don't make 19 or 21mm Natos. They only have 2 sizes.

Crown and Buckle have quite a selection of their Supreme Natos in 19mm. These are extremely good quality at a reasonable price.

Congratulations OP the Planet Ocean is one of Omega’s best watches in my humble opinion, enjoy and wear in good health.

Their NATOs are listed as 19-20mm and 21-22mm, which would cover both 19 & 21mm sizes I reckon.

Here are some badly taken GoPro photos that are a bit blurry, but everyone on OF enjoys photos, so why not…

Going diving in a couple of days so hope to depth test to at least 5% of the PO’s abilities. It’s a very smart watch but wearing very well semi-casually so far! V happy.

I was expecting bling in this thread.

Where's the bling?

This is about a bling as I could make it a couple of meters down!

Absolutely no need to with a diver computer, but I enjoyed using the bezel to time the dive as well.

Great watch, but...
I'm more impressed that your hair stays in place under water!
