New Planet Ocean - too bling?

I have a PO 8500 that I put on bracelet, NATO or OEM rubber strap depending on the mood. The 2500 and 8500 are easily dressed up or down with a band change. Their matte dials and bezels make them much more flexible from weekend casual on rubber or NATO to office or nice dinner out on the SS bracelet. I couldn't do a current model PO, too blingy for me. I'd be more likely looking at the Diver 300M.
Same here, 8500 PO that sees strap changes more than any other watch I own. Love how it can dress up and down relatively well, within the confines of being a rather thick dive watch

Hi mate. To be honest I had originally picked out the 43.5mm but the bloke serving me went and got the 39.5 and his opinion was it suited me a little better. To be honest I was surprised at how small the 43.5mm came up. I wear a Garmin Fenix 5s a lot of the time (for work) and it felt smaller than that.

Guess I’ll have to go to the OB again and try them on for size one more time…. Shame
Go with your gut on the sizing.

I hear a lot of people on forums say that the PO is designed to be a big watch, it looks better a little bigger on the wrist, etc. That's fine for them, but don't get swayed by it. Look at it on your own wrist. How does it look and feel to you? Remember also - the 43.5 is 16mm thick. That's a lot. Plus it's heavier than the 39.5.

My 7.25" / 18.5cm wrist could handle the 43.5 on the outside, but the 39.5 is 2mm thinner. It doesn't wear too small on the wrist. Also, the quick-set date can be a pain in the butt if you rotate watches. I have the 8900 movement in my Aqua Terra, and I wish it had the 8800.

Just some things to think about. We are all different, and only you can determine which of these variables are more/less important to you. Have fun in the journey!

i own the 43mm orange bezel white dial PO which is even more blingy. In person, I think it's not too flashy. The blue dial of the one you are considering may play it down some too. The appliced indices (number and markers) are super reflective and plays off the light well IMHO.
That is one hell of a watch.

I've tried on a couple of POs at different outlets, and there's no doubt they are handsome watches with a mix of sizes and colourways to suit most tastes.

Then I remember I own a 2255.80 😁

This watch is an absolute powerhouse! It's second on my list after an Aqua Terra !

Love the 43.5 PO. I have the blue and Oreo GMT versions. They are blingy as others have noted, but with the applied indices, ceramic dial and ceramic bezel, it’s hard not to be. Really shines in evening wear, which is nice. Someone else made that point, and it’s true.

The new 300MC is also a lovely watch. Go with your gut and remember: Omega will always make more. The option you don’t choose now will likely be available down the road—probably at a significant discount.

The 43.5 PO 8900 is really only a 42mm watch with a 1.5 integrated crown guard you don't even notice when it is on your wrist.

I didn't like the PO 8900 when I first saw it at an AD under bright showroom lights. But it is different in daylight and the all brushed bracelet tones it down quite a bit. I recently tried out a current 40mm Railmaster and was surprised how dull and rather boring it was for me. No bling at all which just didn't justify the price for me.

The PO 8900 has just the right amount of bling for me.

I think the 39mm looked better on the OP than the 43mm.

I also don't think it's too blingy. Since most (all?) of the bracelet is brushed, and some portions of the case are brushed, it's really not such a big deal. And the bezel will get dirty and less shiny, and really, no one will notice.

Compared to something like the new Sub, it's downright invisible.

But as someone said above, on page 1, you need to worry about what you like, not what the rest of us like.

I had my Seamaster 300MC bracelet brushed to tone down the bling factor. I recently purchased the 43.5 PO, and I do not feel it is overly blingy, and looks a fantastic shade of blue in the sunlight. It’s easy to forget you have it on, which is really how i judge how loud a watch is.

Given it’s a watch I’ll wear nearly every day, it’ll soon lose its ‘new’ look. Tbh I think I’ve decided on going for the PO but with the black dial. As nice as the blue was, it’s just a bit too much for me. I was even tempted by the PO 2500 at one point.

The 300MC is gorgeous though - maybe in a few years…

Felt the same way, i think there is such as a thing as too much light especially on all the shiny surfaces. In the wild its much better.

Agree. The 300MC is fire, date function a plus, but honestly doesn't really matter that much IMO.

I found myself becoming drawn to the new 300MC, even though I prefer the overall form of the PO. Stick it on a NATO and it’ll probably be pretty timeless sports watch. I just wish the 300MC had a date function!

Love my PO and don't think it's especially blingy. That being said, it's a chunky boi on the bracelet, and the black Omega rubber strap completely changes its character on-wrist.

As already said several times, it is not too blingy. You can wear it on a Nato and strap it down to the greatest toolwatch available today.

I don’t think it’s too blingy at all.. especially with leather, cordura, or rubber strap.

I wear mine with everything from a suit to shorts and sandals.

mine is the Ti 8500 version..

Definitely not too blingy. If my 39.5 mm version was 1.5 mm thinner, lug to lug 1 mm longer, and the helium escape valve removed, it would be the perfect watch. Heck, I can even live with the helium escape valve.

IMO they are too bling. Really not a fan of glossy dials on divers regardless of how fancy the material is. Hence the reason I prefer the older Planet Oceans.

My Planet Ocean 8900 can see just fine, thank you very much! 😁
