New Nato, but a potential problem?

So I decided to treat myself and went to my local OB in Tainan, and acquired a new Nato strap. It's one I'd been thinking about buying for a while because I prefer the material keepers to the metal ones.

However, after looking at it more closely I realised it was a 19 mm, not a 20. So I went back and asked the salesman and he said it was a 19-20mm strap. Here's some pics. What do you guys think? Should I complain more or just accept it?

Depends on how much it bugs you. It wouldn't bother me as I think it goes with the tool aesthetic of a nato. It would bother me more if it was a strap or a bracelet. But a nato is more utilitarian to me so exact fit and finish not to be expected.

Then again, if this was mega money from a boutique then I might be more annoyed...

It's an omega strap from an OB. The problem is Omegas website lists that strap in 19 or 20mm. So I think I got sold the wrong size.

You can close the gap by 0,5 mm on each side with a 20 mm strap. Not much, but that`s up to you to decide.

I think Sean Connery as James Bond had a slim NATO.

It's frustrating because I thought it was a 20mm strap and didn't think to check because I assumed the staff would know what they were doing.

Lesson learned I guess.

Looks good to me. Leans into the tool aesthetic.

You got sold the wrong size, it should be a 20mm strap for this watch and I would complain.

This cordura NATO is one of the few straps that Omega makes exactly to size in four sizes (19-20-21-22). Others come only in two sizes, 19.5mm for 19mm and 20mm watches and 21.5mm for 21mm and 22mm watches.

Will they take it back though, since I've had it on my wrist?

It's their mistake, so yes. I would strongly insist they replace it with the correct size.

Alright, I'll go back and complain tomorrow, and let you know how I get on. I was a little shocked that they didn't know the lug width of a Speedmaster Professional too.

Definitely unacceptable. They should know better and for that kind of money you deserve the proper size strap.

The look itself doesn’t bother me a ton when I intentionally use the wrong size strap on a watch but I’m only doing that to cross purpose a strap cause I’m too cheap to spend like $30 on a new one.

yes, you got sold the wrong size. As you say, that particular strap (and leather NATO straps) come in 19, 20, 21, and 22mm sizes, not the standard 19-20 (19.5) or 20-21 (20.5) size.

take it back, show the salesperson the website to show them it comes in 4 sizes, and get the correct size. They messed up.

Wrong size, and looks terrible IMO. And if you bought it from Omega, you probably paid some absurd price for it, so that's unfortunate. Complain more? I don't know, it seems to me that it's your responsibility to buy the right strap. Next time, measure your watch (or look up the lug spacing online) ahead of time so you know which size to buy. Or take the watch with you so you can check. Definitely return it if you can, maybe they will take it if you haven't used it. If not, maybe you can sell it as a used strap and buy the right size.

For the money they charge for a strap I would want a 20mm strap and no gap like you have… I just refuse to pay that money for a Omega NATO…

Best NATO for any money is a 20mm Luminox strap. (Believe me I have had probably 50 different brands over the years)

And lately

I told the salesman the correct lug width. I'm well aware that the lug width of a speedmaster is 20mm. I just didn't notice it until a few minutes after I left.

I went back in when I saw it and he said it was correct because the size is 19-20mm. In hindsight I should have argued with him more, but I thought maybe the website was wrong or something.

So you actually had the watch with you and tried it on the watch? Anyway, no need to argue, just don't buy it if it doesn't look good.

I just looked at the website and it seems that it depends which strap you buy. Some come in 19mm or 20mm, but in some colors it comes in "19-20mm", which is obviously 19mm.

And $170? Wow.

Kind of, I put it on the watch just before I left, and just didn't look at that closely because I thought it was the correct size. I was also kind of busy shaking the salesman's hand, saying thank you and goodbye and stuff, so I was a little distracted. It was only after I left that I noticed it.

Yeah, so the salesman got it wrong. So I'm going to go back and complain again.
