New Bond Omega?

Beautiful watch: the slimmer silhouette, the slightly domed crystal, the titanium shades... and that bracelet: it is a killer!

But... I don't like much the Tropical thing and hot temperatures...

I'm more a cold, ice person... what if they make a frozen version?

This is just my opinion but I think Omega would sell more "bond" watches if they stopped making them limited edition. I know I started looking at Omega after seeing the watch on a bond movie, but it was limited edition, over priced and more difficult to find. I never bought it.

According to the Hodinkee podcast, they sold 7007 of the 25th anniversary watches and had a waiting list of over 20000. That's at least 13000 unfulfilled potential sales. We see it from the "watch world" perspective, the general public or specialized communities around movie franchises or space enthusiasts don't see it that way.

My apology in advance for the uneducated enquiry.
To my view, this is a strikingly beautiful and functional piece: Vintage oceanic aesthetics, lightweight, versatile, and uncomplicated. In weighing up the relative merits of the bracelet and NATO options, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of recent Seamaster spring bars failing? I do know someone who lost a Planet Ocean LM LE by such cause whilst actually in the ocean; understandably, he did not find this concurrence amusing.

Just wondering the consensus opinion: If this is a real risk worth the security of the NATO, or rather is so unlikely as to be a non-factor in the decision. Any advice, thoughts, and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone to chime in if he has a clue as to why Omega did it in Ti 2? I spoke to a friend of mine who is into metals and as of him Ti 2 might be even dangerous as it may set by itself sometimes on fire. Ti 5 is considered superior as it has Vanadium and Aluminium in its content.
In this line does anyone as well know what is the Ti quality of the bracelet and buckle?
It's not lithium, man! It'll be fine

It shows that general public is interested more in fictional James Bond than moon landing story..

I really think Omega are pricing themselves out of the market even the titanium is only grade 2. I have a Bremont Terra Nova limited to 300 pieces made of titanium and its almost half the price. The NTTD watch is nice but the price is not.

Planet Ocean in titanium is grade 5 and priced 8800 USD, but it is higher in their internal hierarchy. I think the price tag for this 300M is mainly associated with James Bond.

I think that is where the over saturation of the limited editions comes in. All the limited edition Speedys that come out plus the standard versions are too much for the general public. A watch with the connection to an iconic movie character that is released around the movie generates much more buzz than a watch connected to an event that happened 50 years ago. Almost no one is excited about space missions and events.

Honestly though, if we could just nuke the booze connection here and just co-opt that colorway, I'd be pretty psyched. It's gorgeous in person.

I know I started looking at Omega after seeing the watch on a bond movie,

Huh. For me it was the engraved Seamaster (chrono?) present from Elle McPherson to Alec Baldwin's character in the 1997 Anthony Hopkins film "The Edge" written by David Mamet.

For me it was GoldenEye when I was 10.

Omega-007-Launch-Event-NYC.051.jpg

MC: So, what can you tell us about your role in the design of the watch?

Daniel Craig: The relationship has built over the five movies that I’ve done. When I did Casino Royale, I kind of wanted a new watch. I wanted my watch. My Bond watch. Pierce’s watch was very beautiful and I have one and I wear it often. But I wanted one that suited my Bond. The Planet Ocean that I wore in that film, I still have it, felt correct. It’s a big watch. If you were in real trouble, you could wrap it around your knuckles and smack someone in the face with it, which is an important thing. But what was great, was that I started talking to OMEGA and all the people there, and we started having a dialogue, and I suppose I thought, “they’re not really going to listen to me, they’re a watch manufacturer.” I love watches but I know very little about them, but actually the relationship has built and built and built. What’s been amazing is that we’ve had a back and forth and we’ve talked about watches and I’m so incredibly proud of where we’ve got with it. I feel like they’ve listened to me, which amazed me, and I’m very happy they did. This watch is the culmination of all of that. There are many things. It feels like a military watch, but it’s elegant. I had one important thing, which was that my sleeve must be able to fall over the top of it. And it can. So you can wear it as a dress watch, but it feels like a military watch and a substantial watch. And then with the titanium, it’s as light as a feather and it’s sort of magic. I’m so proud and so happy and incredibly impressed with it. It was brought to me right at the beginning of the filming process and presented to me, and I looked at it and said, “there’s nothing I need to say, you’ve done it, this is it, it’s the James Bond watch.” So I just thank you guys so much.

The FW pictures, make me want the watch more & more. Would be nice to view this in person when released.

The cynic in me regarding Craig and Omega watches in generally (full interview on the website he recommends the Moonwatch as the 1st one to purchase into the brand) feels more like PR & marketing spill. Craig is a watch guy, but from what I remember a heavy vintage Rolex guy and not Omega. Usually sporting an vintage Daytona or Bamford style sub. Although romantic to think he owns the PO from Casino & Brosnon version of the SMP, as a watch guy maybe he does and nice touch if involved in the discussion for the recent one.

My Bond OHMSS finally came today... it's actually much more attractive in person than pics. Gotta move this into the rotation with the BB58....

Looks great. I saw one in person for the first time this morning as my AD has one. Much more subtle in real life and I think I prefer the swirl to the waves. Was sorely tempted but I don’t want to use my budget for my Apollo 11.

very nice watch - congrats

The only dealbreaker I have is the aluminium bezel. I'm fine with an aluminium bezel, but not at that price. You're paying a lot for a watch with an aluminium bezel. They went a few steps forward with the titanium, but took some steps backwards with the aluminium bezel.
